Duties

VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL is recruiting a full-time Orthopedic Surgeon to provide a full range of Orthopedic services to our Veterans. The physician will perform general orthopedic clinic and surgical duties to include arthroscopy and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

The incumbent will be under the Chief of Surgical Service. The major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in and/or manage all aspects of a general orthopedic surgery program

  • Perform administrative duties related to patient care management (entering progress notes, discharge summaries, consults, etc.)

  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team including Nursing, Anesthesiology, Podiatry, Residents and medical support staff to ensure prompt and efficient delivery of patient care services.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m.

  • 4:00 p.m.

VAIHCS provides primary care and secondary inpatient services to Veterans residing in central Illinois and west central Indiana. Inpatient services are available in acute Internal Medicine and Psychiatry.

Community Living Centers provide a skilled care environment with special focus on rehabilitation; dementia and Alzheimer's care; mental health recovery care; palliative care; and extended care. A full range of ambulatory care services is offered including primary care, ambulatory surgery, mental health, substance abuse, and specialty care. The parent facility is located in Danville, Illinois and its four Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Peoria, Decatur, Springfield and Mattoon, IL serve a population of approximately 130,976 Veterans.

VAIHCS has been the leader for VA to adopt the Green House Project model. This concept provides a full range of personal care and clinical services that gives priority to the Veteran's quality of life, providing an atmosphere of security, privacy, dignity and companionship in a real home setting. The homes provide a new and innovative approach for Veterans needing a skilled care setting, changing the design of the traditional institutional nursing home setting into a home environment.

  • Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience: Shoulder arthroscopy and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair experience.
