Summary

Responsibilities

Overton Brooks VA Medical Center is recruiting for a full time permanent board certified/board eligible Cardiologist (Interventional). Clinical duties will focus on invasive management. The incumbent is accountable to the Chief, Cardiology Service assuring quality care standards and the most effective delivery of care. The incumbent physician is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of invasive, non-invasive, consultative, and inpatient/outpatient cardiology care.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Incumbent must be an expert in cardiovascular diseases and have significant experience in all aspects of interventional cardiology and related devices.
Incumbent should provide support to the function of the outpatient Cardiology clinics, the inpatient consultation service and the on-call requirement.
Incumbent will be responsible for the design and achievement of quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction surrounding Interventional Cardiology.
Incumbent will be expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.
Incumbent will review physical requirements and conducts physical examination of various categories of military and civilian personnel.
Incumbent will serve as academic faculty for cardiovascular fellowship training program.
Incumbent will provide medical consultative services and chart review for quality assurance purposes or risk management.
The physician must possess sufficient computer skills necessary to work with advanced electronic medical record, PACS and voice recognition systems, all encounters to be completed daily by physician.
Research experience and interest desirable.
Perform other duties as assigned within their scope of practice.

The physician should demonstrate the ability to work well with a large, diverse and dedicated patient care staff. The position includes a faculty appointment at the affiliated Louisiana State University Health and Science Center commensurate with qualifications. Duties will include clinical practice, and teaching Cardiology fellows, residents and medical students.

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.., Monday through Friday (On call as required)

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Board certified at least once in cardiovascular disease, and board certified in Interventional Cardiology.
