Responsibilities

The Ambulatory Care Section of the Reno VA Medical Center provides care in various outpatient settings including Main Campus, East Campus, Sierra Foothills, Lahontan Valley, Diamond View, and Carson Valley Community Based Outpatient Clinic's (CBOCs), as well as, Winnemucca Outreach Clinic. Walk in Evaluation Clinic provides episodic interventions for patients with complaints ranging from administrative problems up to, and including urgent clinical needs. The service provides scheduled appointments, face to face and through CVT to other sites of care within the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System, for new and follow up services for large numbers of Veterans seen and followed within the Health Care System for a wide variety of common medical and psychiatric problems

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment.

Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area. Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or an acute care setting.
