The Physician Associate Supervisor is responsible for oversight and management of the P.A. clinical program for the assigned surgical and inpatient component of the department. This individual develops a program structure in accordance with expansion and needs of department. They work in collaboration with nursing and physician staff to ensure all areas are appropriately covered and faculty have necessary support.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for evaluating staffing needs and developing positions in the FPA, operating room (OR) and department units to accommodate the addition of attending physicians and coinciding patient volume.

  • Fronts recruitment, hiring, orientation and retention of the midlevel staff.

  • Responsible for the day to day management and supervision of midlevel providers.

  • Work closely with department Administrator and Compensation to develop a salary matrix that is competitive with similar departments, programs and institutions in an effort to remain competitive and retain high performing staff.

  • Serves as liaison for the Department with other department's midlevel staff.

  • Oversees and organizes mandatory updates for continuing education.

  • Meets departmental and institutional guidelines in scheduling.

  • Performs annual reviews in collaboration with the Chair, Administrator, Residency Program Director and attending staff.

  • Provides development and counseling to all staff to achieve and maintain a professional and respected role as providers.

  • Readily available to all department attendings for assistance in promoting an excellent standard of care. This includes providing counsel to physicians regarding outpatient practice management of mid-levels, and OR team coordination and facilitation of resident / mid-level assignment for inpatient management.

  • Works closely with the Residency Coordinator and chief resident to coordinate and facilitate resident education.

  • Promotes communication between midlevel providers and nursing through impromptu meetings and participating in practice management meetings conducted monthly on the floor.

  • Manages patients by participating in the initial consultation of patients and ongoing clinical management of established patients.

  • Responsible for the overall flow of patients through the outpatient system.

  • Senior PA responsible for integrity of office practice in collaboration with the physician.

  • Assists in the inpatient management of patients, including consultations.

  • In coordination with nurses/physicians, develops patient education materials and programs to facilitate continuity of care.

  • Coordinates staff education.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College graduate, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. New York State P.A. certification and current registration mandatory.

  • 5+ years working as a Physician Assistant in specialty program, preferably in an Academic Medical Center. Prior managerial experience desired.

  • Current New York State Physician Assistant License from PA

  • C from NCCPA.
  • DEA from DOH/Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement.

  • Current Infection Control Certificate.
