Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Associate Director.

In this role, the successful candidate Exercises leadership and managerial functions of setting objectives, planning, staffing, budgeting and directing the activities of the Physician Assistants (PA) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) for the department of General Surgery, as they pertain to the operating room at Long Island Community Hospital. Oversees credentialing and reappointment to assure full regulatory compliance; collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop and support goals for optimal patient care, coordination and clinical assessment; identifies, implements, and delivers clinical process improvements pertinent to these functions, such as reduction in length of stay, improvement of patient satisfaction scores and other resource utilization initiatives; Supports and facilitates the development and implementation of interdisciplinary and nursing standards common evidence based practice; Fosters collaborative relationships among disciplines and medical staff leadership; Participates in departmental, interdepartmental and medical board committees, and other functions as requested.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Represents PA/NP supervisors and staff in decisions. Reviews current policies and procedures related to PAs/NPs, develops new policies and procedures as necessary and monitors implementation. Maintains and has readily available documented policies and procedures related to PAs/NPs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned; promotes & supervises new learning experiences for PA/NP staff by overseeing challenging opportunities and responsibilities that are assigned. Promotes membership in relevant professional organizations.

    Participates in staff development programs to meet identified learning needs. Develops continuing medical education (CME) programs for staff. Coordinates appropriate and services for all members of the healthcare team.

  • Performs according to standards of medical ethics of the American Medical Association insofar as they are applicable to the PA/NPs. Obtains and records a complete history and physical examination and admission orders of appropriate patients to be admitted to the surgical services as directed by supervising attending physicians. Maintains high level of team cooperation and carrying our various responsibilities assigned to the PA/NP team.

  • Overseas PA student activities while they are on rotations in hospital

  • Attends quality management, performance improvement, budgeting, & staffing related meetings and conferences. Participates on committees and communicates relevant information to PA/NP supervisors and staff. Coordinates activities to promote PA/NP involvement in quality management programs.

  • Coordinates recruitment and retention of PA/NP staff and a cost-effective manner; Identifies appropriate staffing patterns and resolves problems. Ensures timely creation of operating room staffing schedules.

  • Ensures licenses, registration and certifications are current & maintains PA/NP files. Monitors & performs evaluation process and implementation, as directed. Completes and submits bimonthly payroll accurately and timely.

  • Facilitates PA/NP billing as appropriate; Monitors PA/NP reimbursement and productivity.

  • First assist in surgical procedures as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degrees in physician assistant studies or related field. Current New York State Physician Assistant license.

Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) / NP certification. Minimum of 7 years of clinical experience in hospital setting. 1-3 years supervisory/management experience. Excellent interpersonal skills required to interact with administration, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing, and all other healthcare professional personnel.

Familiarity with health care operations, financial, quality assurance, and human resource procedures, laws, regulations, and standards. Ability to work independently, interact with, and maintain functional relationships with personnel at all levels within and outside of the organization. Membership in specialty related associations and/or interdisciplinary organizations..

Required Licenses: Nurse Practitioner

  • Cert, Physician Assistant Lic-NYS, Nurse Practitioner-NYS, Ntl Com Cert Physician Asst

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree

Minimum Experience: 5 years

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $94,256.76 - $159,070.95 Annually.

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
