New York Children's Medical Provider Services (NYCMPS) group is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide newborn services at the Nuvance Health Northern Dutchess Hospital Birthing Center. The applicant would be responsible for delivering comprehensive quality patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions according to standards of practice to premature, term, sick and healthy newborns. This person will function as a member of the newborn medical team within an integrated model. Interested applicants will be linked to the application at the Connecticut Children's Hospital website.
Treat and evaluate term and premature newborns who may present with neonatal illnesses and/or congenital anomalies and promote the health of the child and family.
Primary areas of care can include the NICU, Delivery Room and Well-Newborn Nursery within NYCMPS's primary and partner hospitals ranging from Level I- Level IV newborn acuity as appropriate for the candidates level of training.
Respond to and appropriately manage life-threatening emergencies in the Delivery Room, the Well-Baby Nursery, the Emergency Room, and the New York Medical Provider Services' Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or its' affiliates.
Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab tests and x-ray results and perform physical examinations.
Perform and maintain competence in required procedures for each site of care as assigned; this may include umbilical vessel catheterization, endotracheal intubation, thoracostomy tube placement, neonatal resuscitation, lumbar puncture, percutaneous inserted central catheter placement, circumcision, venipuncture, IV placement.
Consult with attending physicians for appropriate patient referrals and monitor outcomes.
Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary.
Opportunity to participate in Neonatal Critical Care Team Transport when competence established for this role. Function to identify, plan, implement, and evaluate the stabilization and emergency care of acutely ill neonates in collaboration with the medical control physician.
Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
Precepting of APRN/PA Graduate students and mentoring of newly hired APP team members.
Participate in peer review, development and consultation.
Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific gestation populations and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the NYCMPS STANDARDS
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Family Medicine Nurse Practitioners or Registered and Certified Physician Assistant with preferred minimum of two years' experience. will be considered on an individual basis for appropriate roles. New graduates will be considered on an individual basis. Bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish a plus.
Successful completion of a Master's degree program in the related field.
Registered and Certified Physician Assistant -or- Current State of NY Physician Assistant licensure -or- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure required at time of hire and maintenance at time of appointment or privilege approval (allow one-year grace period for renewal if gap).
For PA hires: required to obtain and maintain NCCPA certification at time of appointment or privilege approval; allow one-year grace period for renewal if gap.
NRP provider certification required, within 3 months of hire.
Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by department
