Overview

Physician Assistant for Orthopaedic Total Joint Replacement surgeon will assist surgeon with clinic, organizing visits and independently performing clinic procedures or visits, act as first assist in the operating room, answer pages and round on post-operative patients on a daily and PRN basis if needed. PA will be responsible for managing care of outpatients post-operatively or for non-operative hip and knee conditions, answering telephone inquiries and filling prescriptions. PA must have a high level of expertise to perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems of patients and skills for ongoing clinical management of the patient.

Responsibilities

Augmentation

  • The PA will extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians.

Consummate Professional

  • The PA will be expected to provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, prescribe medical treatments and manage health issues for patients in collaboration with the designated physician(s).

Collaborator

  • The PA will work autonomously, as well as, in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.

Coordination

  • The PA will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate. Other duties may be assigned to this position.

Customer Service: Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant or related field of study

  • PA Certified in the State of Arkansas (or eligibility for certification).

  • Certified as a Physicians Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

  • Must be able to operate all typical clinical equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, surgical instruments and EKG machines).

  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years experience and Physician Assistant in Orthopaedic Total Joint Replacement required.

  • Specialty Certification Preferred

  • Preferred experience in orthopaedic treatment setting

  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire
