PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (PA) JOB SUMMARY:

This position is accountable for a defined patient population under the supervision of a licensed physician. Functions dependently in a staff position, implementing the role of expert practitioner, consultant, educator, and researcher within a specialized area of patient care.

Performs within the scope of licensures and in accordance with hospital policies. Some positions will be responsible for being on call according to a predetermined schedule or as needed, pursuant to hospital needs.

PA MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current California Physician Assistant license

Completion of a Physician Assistant Program

Current BLS for Healthcare Providers, issued by AHA

Furnishing number, State of California (w/in 1 year of employment)

DEA license for positions that require the writing of scheduled medications (within one year of employment)

Medicare Billing number (NPI- National Provider Identifier) Must obtain within 6 months of employment

Certification: Physician Assistant, National Commission (w/in 1 year of employment)

Successfully complete the credentialing process through Medical Staff Services

Successfully completes the requirements of the delegations of Services for the assigned division

PA PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors or Master Degree of Science

Two years of experience in clinical nursing with emphasis in specialty area

Experience in specialty area as a Physician Assistant

Formal in-service education and/or lecturing skills

Bilingual Skills desired

NURSE PRACTITIONER (NP) JOB SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive physical assessment, treatment, psychosocial support, referral, and health education children and families in clinical, school, and in-home settings. The Nurse Practitioner functions as a primary care provider, clinical leader, educator, researcher and consultant and works with supervision of a physician. The Nurse Practitioner supports the philosophies of the department of nursing as well as the medical staff.

NP MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current California Nurse Practitioner license

NPs provide care in areas within KP in primary care or specialty departments consistent with their educational preparation following the Regional Standardized Procedures and Process Protocols for Ambulatory and Hospital-Based Practice. They perform complete physical examinations, including ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and examinations. Assume on-going responsibility for each patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery. Diagnose and treat both chronic and episodic disorders including complications of otherwise normal processes. Establish and document the health care plan and diagnosis, maintain records of each case that are sufficiently complete for any physician reviewing them to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan. Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members and to customers, contracted providers and vendors. Essential Responsibilities: Collect subjective data (obtain history).Collect objective data (perform a physical exam).Develop an assessment (diagnosis).Develop and implement a management plan.Facilitate the referral of patients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies and resources within the community.Order pharmacologic interventions.Develop and implement an educational plan.Plan for appropriate follow-up care.Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures. Basic Qualifications: Experience * Minimum one (1) year experience unless specified by department as an NP or PA. Education * Graduate of an accredited RN and NP Program OR graduate of an accredited PA program. * Master's Degree in Nursing (effective 1/1/03 for those not previously grandfathered in by CMS-(NP only)). License, Certification, Registration * Current California Nurse Practitioner Certificate or current California Physician Assistant license. * NP Only: Current California RN License. * NP Only: Current California Furnishing Number. * Maintain current national certification from approved organizations (American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, National Certification Corporation for Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties, or the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board) or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants appropriate to education and department (effective 1/1/01 for those not previously grandfathered in by CMS). * CurrentBLS card. * National Provider Identification Number (NPI).
