Job Description:

  • Responsible for primary care and management of acute, sub-acute, chronic and episodic conditions, illnesses, and injuries.

  • Follow protocols, diagnose common illnesses and injuries with the ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings, and evaluate the patient's need for medical follow up.

  • Perform complete physical examinations (pre-matriculation, study abroad, employment, and sports participation).

  • Perform women's health examinations including screening for abnormalities, contraceptive management, pregnancy testing, and STI evaluation with referral to community specialists if needed.

  • Select and request laboratory tests, imaging, and diagnostic tests, perform point-of-care testing, interpret test results, and follow up with patient on test results.

  • Prescribe medication and contraceptive methods in accordance with prescriptive authority.

  • Perform special procedures including suturing, phlebotomy, wound care, injections, incision and drainage, and splinting.

  • Documentation of patient visits in the electronic medical record to include chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, social history, family history, allergies, medications, physical exam findings, diagnosis, and plan of care.

Requirements:

  • Required Degree(s): Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program.

  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Experience working in a primary care, urgent care, emergency department, or college health environment. Two years post-certification or post-licensure medical practice preferred.

  • Required Training/Cert: Certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner by a nationally recognized organization (e.g. NCCPA).

  • Required Licensure(s): Current, unrestricted license as a Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Massachusetts and Massachusetts prescriptive privileges are required. Active DEA and MCSR required.

  • Preferred Licensure(s): BLS, ACLS

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Experience working with college students - obtaining history of present illness, review of systems, performing physical examinations, developing a differential diagnosis, ordering labs/imaging tests, interpretation of lab/imaging results, prescribing medications and treatments, and providing patient education.

  • Strong medical decision making skills.

  • Must be able to work with a diverse student body from a variety of backgrounds and socio-economic experiences.

  • Ability to create or design health-related programming and/or educational handouts/materials for patients.

  • Experience using an electronic medical record system.

Additional Information:

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt level, benefit eligible position. Normal department office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., flexible to the needs of the department. This is a 10-month position scheduled for 35 hours per week from August through May and requires the ability to work pre-scheduled new student orientation dates during the summer months. The position is not required to be on-call and is rarely asked to work weekends.
