Fairview Health Services is seeking a BE/BC Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for a Neurosurgery practice opportunity at our Fairview Spine and Brain Clinic.
The Spine and Brain Clinic provides expert physicians and advanced practice providers who are leading the way in providing compassionate, comprehensive care for neurosurgical problems. Our neurosurgeons and advanced practice provider team treats even the most complex surgical conditions including brain tumors, complex spine disorders and more. Our services and team provide consultative services in Fairview Clinics- Edina, Burnsville, Fridley, Elk River and Princeton.
Practice within the outpatient and inpatient clinical practice setting with shared responsibility for assessment and management of patients in neurosurgery.
Coordinate care for adult neurosurgical patients throughout the course of evaluation and treatment, including hospital admission, surgical intervention, inpatient care, and discharge planning - coordinating the continuity of care between the hospital floor setting, operating room, and discharge.
Write admission and daily notes, orders and directs discharge planning and follow up, and works to improve the quality of care and patient satisfaction. Strategizes to decrease length of stay and readmission rates on the inpatient service.
Educate patients and/or families about their neurological condition, discharge planning, preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
Perform inpatient procedures such as: Reprograming shunts, shunt taps, NM shunt flow studies, lumbar punctures, lumbar drains, wound care, central line, stimulator & pump interrogation/programming.
Work collaboratively with other specialties in coordination and communication of patient care needs.
Primary Call and Rounding dependent on needs of practice including weekend rotation
Maintain accurate and confidential electronic medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, discharge summaries and consultations consistent with state regulatory standards.
Be instrumental in the development of care pathways and protocols for neurosurgery practice.
Be actively involved with quality improvement initiatives as well as best practice models for hospital and neurosurgery section.

Graduate of a school or nursing and accredited Adult/Gero, Acute Care, or Family Nurse Practitioner training program, or accredited Physician Assistant program.
BC/BE through the AANP or ANCC, or NCCPA.
Licensed or ability to obtain APRN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing, or PA license through Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.
Ability to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota
Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
BLS and ACLS Certified
3-5 years experience strongly preferred in Critical Care, Surgery or Emergency Care Specialty.
Experience in Neurosurgery preferred.
