The Department of Surgery is hiring an advanced practitioner (APRN or PA) to join the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.


The advanced practitioner will be dedicated to inpatient care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, which is comprised of trauma, general surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, other surgical sub-specialties and neurology patients. He/she will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists and other specialties in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The advanced practitioner should be willing to work in collaborative environment and will have a strong interest in the care of critically ill surgical patients.

The advanced practitioner will report to the Medical Directors of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, who will be responsible for the clinical and general oversight of the position. The Practice Manager of the section of General Surgery will oversee administrative issues. The designated Supervising Physicians will evaluate the practitioner's clinical skills and overall competency as part of his or her annual performance review with input from the Practice Manger, and members of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

The primary responsibility of the Associate Provider is the direct application of clinical expertise to patients and families being managed in a tertiary care teaching medical center, including responsibility for maintaining quality of care standards for all procedures performed and all clinical care provided to a specified patient population.

The Associate Provider will be fully integrated into the ongoing functions of this Section, such as Journal Club, Research Projects, Teaching Rounds, and Quality Improvement Projects. Experience in Critical Care required. The individual will be an employee of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic and will receive an academic title at the Geisel School of Medicine.

This is a full-time, salaried, benefited position. Schedule is day and night rotating weekend coverage.


Requirements for Nurse Practitioners: RN and APRN currently (or eligible) licensed in NH. Successful completion of an approved NP program and Acute Care Certification required.

Requirements for Physician Assistant: Current (or eligible) certification to practice as a Physician's Assistant in the state of New Hampshire. Academic preparation at the Master's level required.

Qualifications: * Current NH license as an RN or LPN required. * Two years' experience as a nurse with at least one year's experience working in a long term care facility. * Adult education experience preferred. * Must meet state minimum nursing and teaching experience requirements for instructors.
