The Section of Plastic Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide care to plastic surgery patients. Care will be supervised by attending physicians and clinical responsibilities will be shared with the residents. The primary function of this role will be to care for inpatients and patients in the operating room with ample opportunity for surgical experience, as well as opportunities in the emergency department. The hours for this role are flexible, but primarily will be four days per week (Monday - Friday) with a rotating day off. This position does include periodic weekend or night call.
This full time benefited position offers a generous salary with dedicated CME time and funds. An academic appointment at The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth will be requested.
Responsibilities include:
Patient Admissions: H&P and order entry
Round on patients with the resident physicians
Document patient progress
Communicate patient updates to attending physicians
Enter, review and update orders
Request consultations for other services: work up, follow through on recommendations
Determine and order diagnostic tests: follow through on results and communicate with team
Produce discharge documentation: instructions, orders, summaries, prescriptions
Be accessible, available and visible to staff (attending, residents, nursing) Participate in formal handoff
Provide consultations to patients as requested by hospital staff
Function as first assistant in Operating Room; Obtain surgical consent
Perform procedures: VAC dressing changes, suture and drain removal, drainage of seroma or hematoma, foreign body removal, removal of superficial hardware, simple suturing, and wound debridement
Assist with evaluation and management of patients in clinic
Participate in Quality Improvement and other section projects
Participate in CME
Assist with student education and new employee orientation
Act as a clinical resource on plastic surgery to others in the hospital
Provide patient education
Serve as patent advocate
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
Communicate treatment plans to other care providers
Adhere to schedule guidelines
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and NCCPA certification
