The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Physician Assistant Lead or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner for the Washington Corrections Center (WCC) located in Shelton, WA.

This position provides quality, timely, medically appropriate psychiatric services (to include assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prescription services) with appropriate electronic and hard copy documentation in accordance with DOC policies and procedures, the clinician's license and job class.  As a reception center, this position will also support the processes necessary in the screening of all individuals entering the prison system in preparation of placement at a parent institution

  • Provide direct Psychiatric treatment at Washington Corrections Center

  • Oversight and patient care for a panel of assigned patients.

  • Reviews treatment plans, clerical records, diagnoses, and patient-release proposals for quality and adherence to institution policy.

  • Conducts and/or participates in meetings on clinical and administrative policy, and treatment techniques.

  • Examines and evaluates patients for admission or discharge.

  • Examines, diagnoses, and prescribes treatment for mentally ill patients.

  • Prepares reports and patient progress.

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively

  • Solicit information to identify problems and develop solutions.

  • Ensure that plans to deliver care are implemented by self and others and revised as necessary, resulting in safe, timely, and clinically appropriate service provision, including accurate diagnoses and evidence-based treatment

  • Legibly document clinical findings, the rationale, and plan for actions taken to deliver psychiatric and other aspects of health care, in the heath record, computerized database, and on other approved DOC forms.

  • Serve as a treatment resource to other disciplines.

  • Conduct or participate in meetings on clinical and administrative policy, research programs, and treatment techniques.

  • Prepare clinical reports and correspondence on patient progress.

  • Consult with headquarters clinical representatives.

  • Confer with multidisciplinary staff on mental health and special needs of patients.

  • Assure continuity of care by communicating with receiving Psychiatry team when patients transfer between institutions.

  • Protect the confidentiality of health records as mandated by law, professional standards, DOC Policy Directive. and Health Service Unit procedures, Treat all health records or health information as confidential and privileged.

  • Participate in utilization review and quality improvement processes.

  • Actively participate in clinic/facility-wide Coordinated Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) projects and programs

  • Attend facility CQIP/QMP meetings and report back to nursing and support staff to keep nursing staff engaged in improving patient care at every level, on every shift, and at every bedside.

  • Serve as the lead for at least one local quality improvement project per year and engage nursing staff in the process at some level to ensure all employees have an awareness and understanding of the principles of quality improvement and the goals for the organization.

  • Participate/represent facility on state-wide quality improvement initiatives; share our processes and learn from other facilities; implement best practices in patient care.

  • Participate in Health Services Quality Improvement activities.

  • Practice in accordance with DOC Policies and Incarcerated individual Health Plan.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • As a Correctional worker, you will be required to participate in regular drills; subject to emergency assignments to help with security in the event of an inmate disturbance, civil disturbance, or natural disaster.

Required Qualifications:

  • A valid Washington State license to practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Transcripts that demonstrate educational preparation and certification for scope of practice in Psychiatric services. Note: Applicants must include evidence of completion of the above training program and certification at time of application.

  • Must have strong computer skills and be able, among other things, to enter schedule, monitor and track patient information, place medications orders and communicate via email.

  • Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time a final offer of employment is made. The salary range listed in the job posting includes Steps A-U. Step U is a longevity step and is typically gained six years after being assigned to Step T in your permanent salary range.
