What We Do:

OhioMHAS operates regional psychiatric hospitals in six locations across the state that operate 365/24/7. Our specialized facilities provide short-term, intensive treatment to patients in both inpatient and community-supported environments. We also deliver comprehensive care to patients committed through the criminal justice system.

Work Hours: 7:30 a.m.

  • 4:00 p.m. Monday

  • Friday

What You'll Do:

Hours of Work: 8:00 a.m.

  • 4:30 p.m. Monday

  • Friday | Hours may vary depending on operational need. This position is required to be on call 24 hours.

This position will serve in an unclassified status pursuant to Ohio Revised Code, 124.11(A)(14), and as such, serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

  • Direct Care Services: Provides direct patient care services for assigned patients as privileged (e.g. evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, psychotherapy) and perform attending psychiatrist responsibilities in this role based on the established standards of care following the policies and guidelines of SBH and Ohio MHAS. Evaluate need for seclusion and restraint in psychiatric emergencies. Maintains documentation requirements in accordance with certifying agencies (e.g., psychiatric and medical evaluations, discharge summaries) within the time frames mandated by hospital policy, write progress notes, provide written substantiated diagnosis, provides facility attending psychiatrist duties &/or additional unit coverage as needed.

  • Assist in Directing Clinical Operation: Stands in place of the Chief Clinical Officer when requested. Assist CCO in delivery of hospital services in coordination with other disciplines (i.e. authorizing transfers of patients on and off units, provide second opinions, assist with medical staffing plan). Assist the CCO by supervising psychiatrists/APRNs (e.g., conducts annual reviews, recommends corrective actions, approves/disapproves leave requests). Review FRT decisions, competencies assessments, duty to protect evaluations. Review providers' performance measures (i.e. medical records, forced medication protocols). Assist with implementation of policy and procedures to maintain acceptable standards to ensure compliance with accreditation agencies. Corresponds with courts and other authorities regarding medical/legal decisions & procedures as needed. Participates in committees as assigned by the CCO. Serves as the education liaison and site-supervisor for residency/fellowship program and the medical school. Assist hospital management in recruiting qualified physicians.

  • Miscellaneous duties: Provides second opinions upon request by Forensic Review Team, coordinates staff coverage to optimize forensic care, maintain acceptable state standards for forensic program to ensure compliance with accreditation agencies. Actively attends and participates in meetings as needed with outside agencies and boards as it pertains to operation as designated by the CCO. Serves as medical staff lead in hospital utilization management program. Represents SBH in workshops, conferences, & meetings as appropriate, promotes & participates in provision of in-service programming, training & career development for psychiatric/clinical staff. Duties as assigned.
