Position SummaryAssists in care and treatment of patients under the direct supervision of physical therapists, administers and monitors programs for infection control; performs tasks to maintain the department in a safe and orderly condition. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Assists the physical therapists in administering treatments, under their direct supervision. Obtains equipment, material, supplies, and positions them appropriately for use. Assists patients in ambulation when instructed by a therapist. Assists patients to dress, undress. Assists therapists to support, transfer, ambulate, and treat patients. Provides coverage at the front desk in the absence of the receptionist/clerical coordinator. Observes patients and their equipment and reports unusual symptoms or equipment failure the therapists. Administers and monitors current methods of the infection control throughout the department. Maintains and clean all equipment and materials used in patient treatment. Maintains current inventory of materials and supplies to determine need for requisitions. Maintains and organize storage and supply area in an orderly way. Assists in the orientation, training of volunteers and students. Attends department meetings and in-services when relevant and appropriate subjects are presented. Duplicates materials as necessary. Attends hospitals mandatory in-service programs. Has computer skills/aptitude. Function as a Constant Supervision sitter on the nursing units, when assigned, including patient-center tasks such as performing bed baths, skin care, toileting, feeding, measurement of IOs, oral care, safety surveillance, and communication with nursing staff. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education Experience RequirementsEducation: High school diploma. Experience: Successful completion of orientation and on-the-job training according to department guidelines. Qualifications: Ability to interact with and assist therapists in the treatment of adults, and seniors. Open to working with infants, children, adolescents if needed. Must be able to remain stationary for extended/prolonged periods Frequently moves/transports objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum of one (1) assist or assistive device/equipment Must be able to work in environment with continuous interruptions Must be able to assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, department and hospital Must be able to adapt in a high stress and fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions Must be able to detect sounds and respond to emergency sounds/signals at all times Must be able to constantly operate computer, equipment and other devices Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty (60) minutes at a time.
