Overview

Receives and interprets requests or instructions for procedures from the physical therapist . Plans and implements specialized treatment programs and applies physical therapy procedures to patients under the general supervision of a physical therapist

Responsibilities

Completes a preliminary review/examination of patient chart (including medical history), compiles and organizes pertinent information and develops/presents a patient profile to be used in assessing patient's status, and therefore safety, at each treatment under the direction of a physical therapist. Assists with or renders a course of treatment based on the assessed needs of the patient, developing progressive types of physical therapy treatment programs in consultation with a physical therapist or physician.

• Administers or prescribes exercise programs/development of patient care programs as directed by evaluating Physical Therapist

• Demonstrates professional competence and clinical reasoning in assessing patient's condition at the onset and through all phases of skilled physical therapy.

• Routinely takes usual and special precautions relative to the age, medical history and condition of the patient, and the type of treatment being given.

• Regularly reassesses clinical signs and symptoms to determine effectiveness of treatment, progression towards goals, and the need for modification of treatment and/or goals.

• Implements the treatment program through direct treatment of the patient.

• Coordinates the treatment plan and participates in discharge planning with other health care personnel as appropriate.

• Provides advice and education to patient and family.

Qualifications

• Associate (Required)

• Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (Required)

• BLS (Required)

• Acute care experience: 1 year (Preferred)
