About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate for Surgery in an outpatient, orthopedic hospital-based PT clinic with occasional coverage in-inpatient, conducting individual sessions, group sessions and aquatics. Patients age range from 6-100+ with the full spectrum of neuromuscular disorders/dysfunctions with additional capabilities in TBI, vestibular, neuro, pelvic floor and lymphedema management.

Position is being filled using EHA - Critical Need Health Care Occupations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and design exercise programs in accordance with standard physical therapy practices.

  • Administer physical therapy to walk-in ambulatory, general medical and surgical patients.

  • Observe patient responses, judge whether or not the treatment program is having the desired effect, and in concert with the supervising therapist, modifies or discontinues the treatment program.

  • Instruct patients in a variety of exercise programs, including pre and post-operative exercise regimens.

  • Provide direct therapeutic care to a diverse patient population with a variety of patient diagnoses.

  • Coordinate with physical therapist to establish plan of patient care as it relates to patient's physical therapy impairments.

  • Design and modify treatment programs requiring a multifaceted approach determined by the patient's physical and mental conditions.

  • Maintain patient treatment records by writing reports covering initial evaluation of patients, patient progress, and treatment determination.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in a clinical setting executing therapeutic exercises; assisting with the implementation of physical therapy treatment plans; and maintaining patient records in writing (such as evaluation reports, progress notes, and/or treatment determinations) in an electronic-healthcare system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Selected Placement Factor: This position requires a current, active, valid and unrestricted license or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant from a state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States. (Note: You must attach a copy of your license/certificate.)

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Nuclear Enterprise Support Directorate (NE) performs integrated, multidisciplinary, Balanced Survivability Assessments (BSAs) that assess survivability of critical U.S. and allied national/theater mission systems, networks, architectures, infrastructures, and assets.BSA teams aim to ensure continuity to DoD missions and critical infrastructure by assessing the vulnerabilities and survivability of these infrastructure against a broad spectrum of threats including accidents, natural disasters, technological failure, information system attacks, terrorists, radio frequency weapons (RFW), sabotage, and weapons of mass destruction (WMD). In order to ensure continuity of DoD Missions and to maintain continuous operations of critical infrastructure, it is imperative to have fully functional BSA teams (1) to conduct Blue Team Assessments; (2) to provide specific SME assistance to Technical Support Projects (TSPs); (3) to provide Design Review assistance; and (4) to provide technical assistance to the Home Team. The size and skillsets of each team will vary and include those required to execute each mission. The resource needs of each mission and/or stakeholder requests will be identified and managed by DTRA. BSA assessments include, but are not limited to, examining surveillance operations, physical security, telecommunications (e.g., video, voice and data, commercial and military), information operations (e.g., computer networks, IA tools use, operations security), structural protection and response (to include blast effects modeling and consideration of anti-terrorism/force protection standards), utility subsystems (e.g., power and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning reliability and endurance), weapons of mass destruction protection, emergency operations (e.g., emergency preparedness, fire protection, emergency response, disaster control and recovery, continuity of operations), and electromagnetic protection (e.g., electromagnetic pulse and radio frequency weapon susceptibility, lightning protection). The BSA mission, by necessity, is fluid and requires the teams operating within these environments to be adaptable. BSA teams may be deployed to high-threat, but permissive environments anywhere in the world.
