The Tulane Center for Sport provides comprehensive clinical care to former military personnel and former professional athletes via the Tulane University Center for Brain Health (TUCBH) and the Professional Athlete Care Team (PACT) Clinic. The Tulane University Center for Brain Health (TUCBH) is a clinical care and research center for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Physiological conditions, and Behavioral Health (BH) conditions such as post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. The primary focus of the TUCBH is to care for former military personnel who have separated from active duty. The Professional Athlete Care Team (PACT) is a unique care model specifically designed to meet needs of former professional athletes. The PACT Clinic provides athletes with facilitated access to comprehensive evaluation and treatment plans.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist position at the Tulane Center for Sport will work within a comprehensive interdisciplinary medical team to assess patient care needs. This position will primarily focus on evaluation and treatment therapy skills to provide cutting-edge care for the Tulane University Center for Brain Health (TUCBH) patients with persistent post-concussive symptoms as a result of military service and elite athletic participation, with a primary focus on high-level physical performance, visual-vestibular integration conditioning and related cervicogenic therapies. The position will also assist with the physical assessment components of the Center for SportâÂÂs Professional Athlete Care Team (PACT) clinic. Responsibilities include: patient physical assessments, therapeutic intervention and treatment planning and coordination, and progress reporting and follow up.
Understanding of the traumatic brain injuries and its impact on physical performance
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
Ability to search and critically review best evidence to guide clinical decision making and effectively share knowledge with colleagues as well as communicate relevant findings in appropriate language to the public
Current knowledge of military culture
Ability to organize and prioritize with minimal direction and maintain a well-organized work environment
Ability to problem-solve, use good judgement, and deal with diverse and difficult personalities
Ability to work under moderate to high measures of stress
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer skills including the ability to work with a variety of applications
Currently licensed with the state of Louisiana to practice Physical Therapy or ability to obtain licensure
Three years direct experience with vestibular and neurological clinical specialty
Three years direct experience with traumatic brain injury assessment and intervention
One year sports medicine, exercise physiology and/or human physical performance assessment and training experience
Doctor of Physical Therapy or Doctor of Physiotherapy degree
Three years of directly relevant experience including background in neurologic rehabilitation and/or vestibular rehabilitation, specifically related to concussive injuries
Experience treating TBI on an interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team
Experience working with active duty service members or military Veterans and/or elite level athletes
Experience with electronic medical record-based documentation
