Physical Therapist

Reports To: Director of Special Services

REQUIREMENTS: Physical Therapist Licensure

JOB SUMMARY: To provide physical therapy services to Special Ed students who require physical therapy and who are eligible

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direct physical therapy to special education students who are eligible and who are in need.

Conducts evaluations for referred students to determine the eligibility and need for physical therapy, following state criteria and district procedures.

Attend relevant MDT and IEP meetings as a qualified evaluator to explain evaluation results and recommendations, and to contribute appropriate goals for student IEP's.

To act as a resource for educators to help address modifications and strategies in the classroom for gross motor skills.

Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to sit, stand, and walk without fatigue and discomfort.

Must be able to assist in student transfer from chair to chair, chair to floor, etc. May be required to perform reaching, some lifting or caring (25 pounds), pulling or pushing (50 pounds. Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Inside

Climate Environment: Typically, work is conducted in a comfortable environment. Some District work areas are not climate controlled and are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity.

Hazards: For some buildings, stairs, chalk dust and exposure to communicable diseases may be a potential hazard. Travel between schools will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.
