Position Overview

Seeking a career and customer-oriented engineer or physicist to join our team at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, providing support to our government customer.  This candidate will serve as a technical/scientific resource on projects, analyzing problems and applying theoretical techniques to develop solutions, providing technical support and subject matter expertise for projects in the fields of Radiological/Nuclear (RN) threat detection, electromagnetic pulse (EMP) sensors, radiological hazard prediction/mapping, and situational awareness support software.

Essential Job Functions & Duties

  • Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge on subjects such as mechanics, fluid mechanics, quantum mechanics, geology, optics, acoustics, electricity, pneumatics, magnetism, and electromagnetic and particle radiation.
  • Subject matter expertise in nuclear and radiation detection and sensing technologies used to improve, integrate, and enhance senior leader decision support.
  • Resolves highly complex technical issues, conducts or monitors advanced engineering research, and recommends alterations to development and design.
  • Advises on use, maintenance, tests, and development of mathematical and scientific models to study complex systems.
  • Prepares technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions and conclusions of scientific investigations. 
  • Provides advice and assistance with source selection decisions. 
  • Supports important technical interface client engagements, responsible for the quality, quantity, and timeliness of contracted work required to satisfy a range of technical performance including nuclear technologies, weapons systems, emerging WMD threats, hazard prediction and mitigation, detection systems.
  • Assists program managers with contract management items, such as acquisition package development, contract performance evaluation, and deliverables quality and acceptability assessment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Physics, Engineering, or relevant field with 5+ years of relevant experience; or Master of Science in Physics, Engineering, or relevant field with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated success in R&D, acquisition, engineering programs or projects.
  • Ability to translate requirements and observations into clearly defined high-quality written products (briefings, reports, White Papers) in short timeframes.
  • Skilled in using personal computer and standard office automation systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, M/S Project).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate must be capable of communicating with technical experts and senior leaders both verbally, in writing, and with the use of PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work independently and complete tasking with minimum guidance and supervision.
  • Possess or be eligible for an active personal security clearance at the minimum level required of Top Secret for the specific position and be eligible to receive SCI access.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Already have active TS or TS//SCI clearance.
  • Experience in an engineering, scientific or acquisition analysis function, including research.
  • Project Management experience; knowledge of systems design and development and optimization, from concept to test and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Joint Services processes, operations, and CCMDs regarding DoD systems/architectures.
  • Understanding of nuclear weapons, detection, modeling, countering WMD technologies, or related work.
  • Specific technical expertise in CWMD operations, military utility assessments, and/or target assessments.
  • Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with the countering weapons of mass destruction missions, technology, and organizations.
  • Familiarity with combatant command (COCOM) organizations and missions.

Working Conditions

  • Work primarily at government facility in Fort Belvoir. Occasionally, work may be at another client facility in Alexandria, VA.
  • 40-hour work week is normal. Schedule will depend upon job requirements 
  • 10% - 25% travel is expected and may include occasional international travel.
  • Will be working around low-level radioactive sources.
  • Should be able to lift 25lbs. of lab equipment by yourself.
