Position Summary:

The major responsibilities of the Physical Plant Associate are the general maintenance and upkeep of the facility and grounds for the entire campus. The Physical Plant Associate also performs modifications and repairs to the facilities, equipment and furniture.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs general building and grounds maintenance, including carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs in all facility buildings.

  • Maintains a general understanding of equipment, systems, and facilities in order to perform maintenance duties effectively, under general direction.

  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance duties as required including, but not limited to, changing filters, light bulbs, cleaning of drains, painting, lubricating equipment.

  • Performs all Physical Plant functions with workplace safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

  • Recommends and implements methods to increase the quality of products and/or services.

  • Performs snow removal and grounds work as needed including but not limited to: performing office moves, moving and or installing office, classroom and residence hall furniture, small capital improvements.

  • Participate in self-development activities and training of others.

  • Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.

  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergencies.

  • Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use power tools and drive physical plant vehicles and equipment.

  • Ability to read and comprehend general instructions, short correspondence and memos.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal means.

  • Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to assess a facility or maintenance issue and either correct the issue or report it to the appropriate College personnel.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to stand and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The College complies with all local, state, federal and OSHA standards and provides the proper equipment and training for employees to perform their duties.

Additional Information:

This position is based in Albany, NY. The duties and responsibilities of this particular role require the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or interaction with our community, requiring all work to be performed full-time on-site. Standard work hours are from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM EST, Monday through Friday. Additional details pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process.
