WHIN is currently seeking a high performing Elementary Physical Education Teacher ready to help grow a unique school community where compassion, kindness, and curiosity drive each and every day.
Specifically, the Elementary Physical Education Teacher at WHIN is primarily responsible for:
Teaching and facilitating health and physical education programs and learning experiences that are aligned to the school's mission and standards, including New York State Standards for Physical Education.
Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe gymnasium and office with charts for learning, visible safety routines, and organized equipment and classroom materials.
Leading and teaching yoga and mindfulness practices to staff and students.
Supervising recess and/or other special school-wide events, such as Field Day
Maintaining an accurate inventory of gymnasium equipment.
Managing student behavior in a calm, consistent, warm, and proactive manner using Responsive Classroom and other restorative practices
Maximizing instructional time by proactively teaching, modeling, and reinforcing classroom and school-wide routines and procedures (lining up, transitioning from the carpet to the desks, walking through the hallways, cleaning up, etc.)
Consistently monitor student learning and engagement with checks of understanding
Administer and analyze informal and formal student assessments, using quantitative and qualitative data to drive and inform instruction
Actively participating in professional learning through meetings, trainings, and coaching cycles.
Maintaining and submitting accurate and complete assessments, report cards, interventions, and other academic records in a timely manner.
Contributing and participating in the Child Study Team's (CST) meetings, and implement interventions in the classroom as needed for at-risk students
Qualifications for the Physical Education Teacher are:
Bachelor's Degree in education or related field; NYS PE certification
Three years (minimum) classroom experience
Experience in urban schools and/or communities
Strong organization skills
Ability to work well on a team and communicate effectively
Ability to work autonomously as well as take coaching as needed
A sense of humor and kindness towards your colleagues
Advanced proficiency in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred
Bilingual (Spanish)
Music performance
Early Childhood teaching experience and/or certifications
Project Based Learning and Inquiry Based Learning
Responsive Classroom, Restorative Justice models, and NYS learning Standards
Benchmark, Formative, Summative, and Cornerstone Assessments
