Physical Education Teacher

Services K-5 students receiving classes weekly. Also works with students in severe special education classes who participate in physical education classes and work in tandem with physical therapy consultation.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical education to elementary students utilizing the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum;
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the district;
• Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and provide time for instruction, exercise and sports activities;
• Analyze, demonstrates and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies in formal sports, games, rhythm and fundamentals of body movement;
• Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress;
• Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities;
• Helps plan special school-wide events.

Additional Requirements or Information:

• Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt curriculum to the needs of the students to the extent feasible;
• Exhibits proper conduct in the handling of student emergencies;
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment;
• Instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment and organizes storage areas and controls use of materials to prevent loss or abuse;
• Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepares progress reports;
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional grown activities.
