Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School of Chicago, IL is seeking to hire a full-time Physical Education Teacher to play a vital role in our students' success. This position offers a competitive salary based on experience. Our Teachers work Monday-Friday, 8:15am-4:30pm with a shortened academic day in the summer and time off in July and August.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER
As a Special Education Teacher, you utilize your knowledge, experience, and training to engage your students and spark their passion for learning. Most of your time is spent planning, preparing, and teaching lesson plans.
During your planning, you consider the individual needs of each student and adapt teaching strategies suited to their educational and physical needs. As you effectively manage the classroom, you work to establish a safe and secure learning environment for your students.
Illinois Professional Educator License in Physical Education required;
Three years of classroom experience within a Special Education setting preferred;
Ability to relate to special needs students in a constructive and therapeutic manner required;
Ability to develop and teach curriculums for sports fundamental skill development (soccer, volleyball, softball, floor hockey, basketball).
Experience in yoga, warrior yoga and/or Pilates instruction preferred.
Experience in Rhythm and Movement instruction (i.e., Dance) preferred.
Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty pounds. Light moving is required from time to time. Must be able to supervise children, ages six through twenty-one, inside and outside of the School.
