JOB SUMMARY:To instruct students (in grades Prek-8) with the knowledge and skills of related physical education activities in a positive environment that promotes healthy lifetime healthy lifestyles.The information contained in this job description is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION:

  1. Professional Educator License with Physical Education Endorsement and/or Health Education Endorsement
  2. Must Be NCLB Highly Qualified.
  3. The ability to enhance true physical and social-emotional development of the child in relationship to the four components of fitness
  4. Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, public and community relations, academic competence.
  5. Applicants must possess effective behavior management skills.
  6. Applicants must be able to structure a classroom to maximized student learning.
  7. Applicant must be able to establish effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
  8. Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, public and community relations, academic competence.
  9. Strong technology skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.
  2. Inspire and motivate students to achieve the maximum of their capabilities in learning new skills.
  3. Encourage each child and help them to develop a sense of worth, dignity, purpose and self-discipline.
  4. Implement various programs designed to achieve the educational objectives of the District.
  5. Seek assistance from building level administration and/or the program coordinator, as may be necessary, particularly in areas of student misbehavior.
  6. Keep accurate records for each student as may be required by the program coordinator, the principal, and the district.
  7. Requisition at the building level instructional materials and supplies as they are needed / required.
  8. Attend meetings called by the program coordinator or building principal.
  9. Follow the physical education guidelines particularly those that ensure student safety while in the learning environment.
  10. Conduct on-going professional communication with parents of students, including parent-teacher conferences.
  11. Participate in in-service training programs authorized by the district superintendent.
  12. Participate in workshops and clinics as assigned by the program coordinator.
  13. Assume other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the program coordinator or building principal in keeping with the policies of District 86.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  1. Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  2. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
  3. Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials.
  4. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
  5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
  6. Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  1. Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of this position.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  2. Ability to identify and define problem(s), collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  6. Extensive knowledge of and ability to perform duties in compliance with all district, Board, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position.

  8. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate files and records.
  9. Ability to meet strict deadlines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters when performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in this environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors. In-district and out-of-town travel required as necessary for training and/or to carry out duties and responsibilities.
