PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and (as necessary) adjusts instructional goals and objectives, to reflect district/school goals, curriculum policies, and the knowledge, skills, progress, and needs of one's students.

  • Designs lessons that provide opportunity for problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to authentic, real-world problems.

  • Establishes and maintains standards for behavior that foster student self-discipline and positive relationships among students.

  • Commits to on-going professional development in content area and pedagogy.

  • Plans learning activities to address individual differences among students.

  • Develops, administers, and evaluates quality formative and summative assessments that reflect a balance of content knowledge and problem-solving skills.

  • Monitors, and evaluates students' progress in relation to district/school curriculum and policies and other planned goals and objectives.

  • Encourages, secures, and maintains the involvement of parents and other community members in support of instruction.

  • Involves parents in the assessment of their children's progress and needs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Required certification: Physical Education (044), PK-12; Master's degree preferred

  • Three years' successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred

  • Experience in the use of educational technology

  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills

Responsible when appropriate, for planning and producing presentations which exhibit student work, talent, and/or athletic skills. The Special Education teacher assumes responsibility for the development of the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and consults with necessary school personnel to provide appropriate modifications and accommodations as mandated by the student's IEP.</p><p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><ul><li><p>Demonstrates comprehensive and current knowledge of subject taught.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development as it relates to the learning/teaching process.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrates an awareness and respect for diversity of cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.</p></li><li><p>Identifies and sequences goals, objectives, strategies, and assessments, which provide for individual differences.</p></li><li><p>Plans and implements the elements of an effective lesson design and develops lesson plans, which incorporate technology and instructional aids appropriate for instruction.</p></li><li><p>Aligns assessment with instructional objectives on the basis of the formative assessment.</p></li><li><p>Monitors student progress and adjusts instruction on the basis of student questions and performance.</p></li><li><p>Communicates with students both individually and collectively about their needs and progress.</p></li><li><p>Maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior.</p></li><li><p>Maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment by consistently implementing routines, transitions, and procedures.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated knowledge of national, state, and local standards.</p></li><li><p>Proficient and consistent with use of data to inform instruction.</p></li><li><p>Develops and maintains systems for keeping group and individual records.</p></li><li><p>Establishes rapport and fosters positive reinforcement.</p></li><li><p>We need someone who has an interest in vocational training, and taking 10-12 students out to work daily and enjoys working with Intellectually Disabled students in a vocational setting.</p></li></ul><p>REQUIREMENTS:</p><ul><li><p>Connecticut teaching certification (165)(065) Comprehensive Special Education K-12 or PK-12; Master's degree preferred.</p></li><li><p>Three years' successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.</p></li><li><p>Experience in the use of educational technology.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrates responsibility for self-growth, professional improvement, ongoing self-reflection or self-evaluation.</p></li><li><p>Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.</p></li></ul><p>Salary will be in accordance with the BEA contract salary schedule.</p><p>Qualified candidates who wish to apply should access the Bridgeport Public Schools' website: http://www.applitrack.com/bridgeport/onlineapp</p><p>&quot;The Bridgeport Board of Education is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.&quot;</p><br> Bridgeport Public Schools Bridgeport CT
