Physical Education / Health Teacher - Galvin

Position Title: Middle School Physical Education & Health Teacher

Reports To: Director of Athletics, Health and Wellness/ Building Principal

SUMMARY:

To create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitude and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for Elementary, Middle or High school education, in accordance with each pupil's ability to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, teach, and assess student performance in Health and Wellness classes, including Physical Education, and possibly Health Education

• Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and welcoming in order to optimize student capabilities, develop a love of learning, and promote academic risk taking

• Develop lesson plans and instructional material to implement district-approved curriculum and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

• Differentiate services and instruction to meet variety of student learning needs and strengths, including students with disabilities and English learners

• Attend monthly faculty and department meetings

• Collaborate with a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to develop common assessments and implement effective teaching strategies.

• Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare quarterly student report cards.

• Regularly contact (through face-to-face meetings, e-mail, and by phone) families regarding student progress

• Attend professional development to continually improve practice

• Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Health and Wellness and/or Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Massachusetts DESE Certification

• Physical Education (5-12) and/or (PK-8)

• Preference for additional certification in Health/Family and Consumer Science (All grades)

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to work with children.

• Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
