Duties

Summary

This position is located at the Chillicothe, Ohio VA Medical Center in the Physical Medicine and Rehab Care Line.

Responsibilities

The incumbent treats patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the spine, peripheral joints, and soft tissues, such as sprains/strains, disc herniations, rheumatologic conditions, degenerative, developmental, acquired, and traumatic neuromuscular conditions of the upper and lower limbs, spinal cord, and brain; treat patients with amputations, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and prescribes prosthetics and orthotics; prescribes therapeutic exercise and other rehabilitation modalities; performs and interprets electro diagnostic studies, to include electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies; and interprets diagnostic studies that evaluate a patient's musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems, such as CT, myelography, bone scan, and MRI.

The incumbent participates in quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction surrounding Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

The incumbent will be expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.

The Physiatrist will provide consultation and oversight of Veterans in Acute Medicine and Community Living Centers with pain and rehabilitative needs.

The incumbent also develops and implements treatment recommendations for pain syndrome and diagnosis, using interventional techniques including, but not limited to joint injections, lumbar epidural injections, ultrasound-guided injections, Botox injections and acupuncture to decrease the use of opioids, and alternative medical treatment techniques; collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Pain Team for coordinating care into Acute Medical, Mental Health and Pain Providers; provides oversight to mid-level providers (NP/PA); and provides resident education in program and research.

  • Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm or 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
    Some evenings, weekends and/or holidays may be required.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship
Education

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or; (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted; (3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
    Licensure

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    Residency

  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    English Language Proficiency (spoken and written)
