In this role, you will work within an Optical Science team, collaborating with a highly multi-disciplinary group, to develop and demonstrate new photonic sensor concepts. You will take advantage of your technical breadth as well as your depth of experience with optical systems.

Key Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 4+ total years of experience in integrated photonics, plus most of the following:Solid grasp of optical physics fundamentals.Experience with simulation of integrated optical active and passive components at both component and circuit level, including FDTD, waveguide mode solvers, and scatter matrix.Strong programming ability with Python, Matlab, or similar language.Experience with industry-standard physical verification methodology (DRC/LVS).Good understanding of a variety of optical measurement techniques, with hands-on experience characterizing optical devices.Excellent communication and presentation skills.Ability to work well in a team environment.

Description

As a Photonic Design Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities:- Work with the System Engineering team to invent, implement and test optical sensor concepts.- Conduct first-principles numerical simulations of optical devices and systems.- Identify causal relationships between observed system-level performance and specific device-level parameters.- Write specifications for custom optical devices, based on a combination of modeling and interpretation of empirical data.- Work with external vendors to design and fabricate custom optical devices and circuits meeting our system-level requirements.- Work with internal silicon engineering org to develop and implement physical verification methodologies for integrated photonics.- Work with the team to test and validate fabricated devices.

Education

A Masters degree or PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, EE, or related field is required.

Responsibilities include the design of integrated photonic components, development of fabrication processes, implementation of processes through a foundry, and testing and characterization of the resulting components to verify performance. General Requirements: * A strong understanding of optical component design, fabrication and test. * Good background in semiconductor optical devices such as lasers, detectors, modulators and other integrated waveguide devices. * Use of optical and electronic modeling and simulation software to design electro-optical devices, and generate GDS level mask data for device fabrication. * Familiarity or direct experience in the standard Si/CMOS/MEMS process technologies required for fabrication and integration of electrical and optical devices. Experience of heterogeneous integration of III-V on Si platform is a plus. * Familiarity and direct experience in device characterization and testing as required in the development environment. High speed testing background is preferred. * Familiarity with optical components testing protocols including equipment setup, algorithms and sensitivity analysis. * Ability to work in an integrated team environment. * Ability to work with a large body of data and the necessary statistical analysis tools, and the ability to present the data and ideas to a diverse audience. * Education and Experience: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Photonics or a related discipline with emphasis in high speed optical components or equivalently those with an M.S./M.Eng. will also be considered.
