Hours

Schedule varies as this is a float position. 40 hours per week.

The exact schedule depends upon the needs of the department, as this position covers for others who have time off, vacation, etc. Start time would be scheduled no earlier than 6:30am and shift end no later than 5:15pm. May include occasional Saturday mornings.

Summary

Performs a variety of duties involved in the registering and ordering clinical specimens. Also collects, identifies, labels, handles and processes venous and capillary blood specimens from patients for health care providers.

Completes clerical duties associated with laboratory specimen collection and processing. Provides support and assistance as a resource for matters relating to phlebotomy for all Patient Service Center staff. Reports to the Laboratory Patient Service Center Supervisor(s) and is accountable to all Laboratory Management Team members.

Education

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Certification, Registration & Licensure

Certification required to obtain: PBT (ASCP) Certification must be obtained within one year of hire.

Licensure required: Valid NH driver's license. Driving record from Department of Motor Vehicles, and insurance coverage, which comply with organization and departmental Driving Policy.

Experience

Minimum of 2 years full-time or equivalent phlebotomy/specimen control experience.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients

of all ages.

  • Serves as a resource for Patient Service Center's and off-site locations.

  • Delivers a level of customer service to patients and stakeholders that is consistent with Laboratory

Department standards.

  • Performs patient registrations in the Hospital Information System.

  • Performs test ordering in the Laboratory Information System.

  • Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements.

  • Provides coverage at Patient Service Centers or off-site locations.

  • Identifies problems related to work activities, including involvement in Quality Assurance and Quality

Improvement efforts within the department.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
