The primary purpose of the Phlebotomy Laboratory Supervisor position is to plan and monitor the performance of procedures for the collection of analytical laboratory specimens.
The ideal candidate will be a certified medical technologist (ASCP) with a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology and five years of clinical laboratory experience to include two years of lead/supervisory experience.
The schedule for this position is Sunday - Thursday, 9:30 PM - 6:00 AM.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Supervises assigned Phlebotomists, Patient Service Coordinators, Lead Phlebotomists and Phlebotomy Trainers
Ensures all personnel are trained.
Ensures competency assessments are completed according to guidelines.
Coaches and counsels and writes performance evaluations for assigned employees.
May assist with staffing/scheduling.
Manages customer service interactions and relationships with diplomacy and professionalism.
Complies with section telephone policies and procedures.
Demonstrates courtesy, compassion, and cooperation when working with patients, staff, and co-workers.
Remains calm and demonstrates self-restraint when dealing with others regardless of their demeanor.
Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene and is consistently well-groomed adhering to the section/division dress code.
Adheres to applicable policies, procedures, and protocols
Performs all phlebotomy procedures in accordance with the section's procedure manual.
Accurately identifies patient and collects the correct specimens.
Maintains specimen integrity by collecting and transporting specimens in a timely manner.
Completes records (electronic and paper) and files as appropriate.
Assists co-workers as required.
Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Molecular Genetic Technology or a related science field (Biology, Chemistry, Physiology).
Experience
Required: Five years of clinical laboratory experience to include two years of lead or supervisory experience.
Certification:
Required (one of the following):
Certified Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry (BOR).
Certified Clinical Laboratory Specialist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry (BOR).
Certified Cytogenetics Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry (BOR).
Certified Histocompatability Technologist by the American Board of Histocompatability and Immunogenetics
or other certification in a specialized field relevant to the laboratory assigned.
