Summary of Position

Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.

The instructor must be patient and respectful, while also providing their expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the program.

This posting will be used to fill multiple part-time Instructor vacancies. Finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses.

Payment is based on the credit hour/contact hour and class ratio as assigned to you by the department chair. RRCC starts at $1572.86 - $1730.14/credit hour with Lab.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Classroom Instruction: Required to meet all class periods and start and end classes promptly.

    Teach assigned curriculum and make use of required texts and materials. Provide students with a complete syllabus before the first day of class that includes information on course description, objectives, assignments, grading policies, and contact information. Provide data on student attendance (no-shows, last day of attendance, etc.), promptly. Use technology to facilitate learning including meeting the required minimum standards for the use of the College learning management system Desire2Learn (D2L).

  • Student Assessment (Grading): Maintain updated and accurate grading records in D2L and submit all final grades by the due date in the college student information system, Banner. Provide consistent and timely feedback to students regarding progress and grades on assignments.

  • Planning: Prepare for each class meeting and consider learning strategies that address diverse learning styles and a diverse community college student population. Class content and assessment methods should relate to course objectives.

  • Communication: Respond timely to students and RRCC staff every 24-48 hours during the class term and for at least one week after grades are submitted.

    Attend department staff meetings throughout the semester as scheduled. Provide updates to the department chair.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Associate Degree or higher in an Allied Health discipline. 4,000 hours of verified work experience related to the field in the last 5 years.

Must have a current CTE credential or the ability to obtain one. Certified Phlebotomist (RPT, PT, or MLT), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with verified experiences in performing phlebotomist duties, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with verified experiences in performing phlebotomist duties or, Registered Nurse with verified experiences in performing phlebotomist duties.

Preferred Qualifications:BLS/CPR certified (AHA). One (1) year teaching experience in post-secondary and/or vocational/technical education location including online and in-person delivery methods Demonstrated knowledge of Phlebotomy and experience using non-traditional learning environments. Membership in or experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of students and staff from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:The ability to accurately observe and assess venipuncture procedures, evaluate student performance, and ensure safety in the laboratory setting is essential. Additionally, visual acuity is necessary for reading and interpreting instructional materials, as well as safely navigating the laboratory environment.

Physical and Cognitive Demands:The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.

  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports classroom and office equipment and supplies weighing up to 10 lbs.The frequency of bending varies depending on the tasks involved, such as assisting students with technique demonstration, accessing equipment, or engaging in practical demonstrations during instructional sessions.

Work Environment and Typical Work Schedule: The Phlebotomy Adjunct Instructor will collaborate closely with the Program Director within the Academic Affairs division, ensuring alignment with program objectives and curriculum standards.

Additionally, they will engage with hourly clinical skills instructors, administrative personnel across the college, and liaise with personnel at affiliated facilities. This role involves fostering effective communication and teamwork among various stakeholders to enhance the educational experience for students. The role primarily involves on-campus instruction on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

However, flexibility is required to accommodate tasks such as course planning, grading, and meeting with students as necessary. While the incumbent may not have set office hours, they are expected to hold office hours by appointment to support student needs. Additionally, there may be occasional mandatory meetings (1-2 per semester) outside of regular class hours to attend. Weekend hours, attendance at off-campus events, and travel may also be necessary to support program activities and initiatives.
