With excellent customer service skills, the phlebotomist collects blood, urine, and DNA specimens from patients for testing in the laboratory. Performs point-of-care laboratory tests
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program. or medical training is preferred.
Completion of a Phlebotomy Technician Certification program is preferred.
Previous blood drawing is preferred.
Special Skills and Competencies:
Ability to prioritize multiple orders in a rapid and accurate manner in order to provide timely service to all patients.
Must have Excellent Customer Service Skills. Ability to make sound, independent decisions.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other hospital personnel and patients.
Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
Understands that errors may have serious consequences for patients.
Must be able to ride in an elevator and push/pull phlebotomy cart.
Completes the following mandatory courses (check all that apply).
XMust provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
XCompletes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.
