Job Title: Phlebotomist

Location: Queensbury, NY

Center Operating Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 7 AM - 7 PM

Position Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Pay Range: $19 - $23 per hour, based on experience

Work Schedule: Flexibility required to work an 8-hour shift, either opening or closing, from Tuesday to Saturday, as determined by the hiring manager to meet center operational needs.

Requirements:

  • Must live in New York state.

  • Positive attitude and customer service experience required.

  • 3 months experience or completion of phlebotomy course

Job Summary: Assist in determining the suitability of donors to undergo plasmapheresis before venipuncture. Responsible for ensuring the safety of donors during the collection process. Monitor donors throughout the collection process for possible equipment errors, donor reactions, or unexpected events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish rapport with donors to ensure overall service satisfaction.

  • Conduct routine venipuncture for plasmapheresis and collect donor samples.

  • Respond and assist with donor reactions during the donation process.

  • Monitor collection equipment to facilitate the health and safety of the donors.

  • Set up, disconnect, and operate the plasmapheresis machine, including troubleshooting, documentation, and evaluation of any message displays.

  • Disconnect donors by removing the needle from the venipuncture site and dispose of all contaminated disposable equipment into a biohazard container.

  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of plasma auto pheresis machines, including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly maintenance of all equipment in the donor floor area.

  • Maintain equipment and work area cleanliness between donors.

  • Responsible for accurate documentation of collection records.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, OSHA, CLIA, cGMP, and internal procedures.

  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor during all interactions with donors, fellow employees, and vendors.

  • Accept performance feedback in a professional manner.

  • Regular attendance and arriving on time to all scheduled shifts and mandatory meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum one year of work experience preferred as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant

  • License or certification where required by state.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Discretion when dealing with confidential information.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines efficiently.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Frequent leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching above the shoulders and below the knee.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods for up to four hours at a time.

  • Ability to lift, tug, and pull up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Typical work environment with moderate noise levels.

  • May be exposed to freezing temperatures for short periods.

  • Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
