Responsibilities
The Phlebotomist obtains and processes a variety of different types of specimens of infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. The Phlebotomist acts according to established procedures in order to provide the Laboratory technical staff with materials for analysis.
The Phlebotomist will typically start the day visiting nursing homes drawing blood before traveling to the hospital.
Essential Functions:
Performs venipuncture on infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients according to established protocols and procedures so as to provide the best possible specimen for analysis.
Uses two forms of positive identification of all patients prior to obtaining any specimen and labels that specimen correctly in order to maintain quality of patient care.
Maintains a working knowledge of Laboratory and Hospital computer routines necessary to process infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, to maintain productivity throughout the Laboratory.
Processes specimens, i.e., centrifugation aliquoting, delivery, according to established procedures in order to maintain integrity of patient samples.
Participates in Laboratory quality assurance monitors as appropriate in order to maintain high standards of patient quality care.
Maintains adequate levels of departmental supplies by stocking and notifying supervisor of shortages in order to maximize Department productivity and maximize cost
Qualifications
Education and Experience:High School Diploma/GED, required Licenses and Certifications:Medical Lab Technician
Certified Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency, Upon hire, preferredLAB\Medical Technologist
Certified, Upon hire, preferred
Responsibilities 5:00 am- 9:00 am, Nursing Home Coverage
