The Philosophy Instructor is a full‐time, salaried position responsible for coordinating, planning, preparing, presenting, and evaluating educational instruction in Philosophy. These responsibilities involve developing and implementing the syllabus, achieving student learning outcomes, evaluating student performance, record-keeping, and related activities. Related activities include, but are not limited to, advising, serving on various committees, coordinating with business, industry, and universities, participating in recruiting and retention efforts, and participating in professional activities and organizations. This is a 9-month faculty position reporting to the District Director of Social Science.
QUALIFICATIONS: (a) Master's Degree in Divinity or a Master's degree and 18 graduate hours in Divinity; (b) Community College teaching experience in Philosophy, Religion, or Ethics; (c) experience teaching online; (d) experience with classroom technology; (e) demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; (f) excellent interpersonal communication skills required.
REPORTS TO: District Director of Social Science Instruction
CONTRACT TERM: Nine (9) months
HOURS: 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach Philosophy courses, primarily Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Religion and Logic
Prepare, administer, and grade essays, tests, other assignments, and/or program assessment data
Maintain a record of student attendance as required by the Mississippi Community College Board
Submit grades, attendance, and outcomes according to the academic calendar
Manage timely engagement, grading, and communication
Participate in departmental meetings and committee assignments
Complete 15 hours of professional development each year
Ability to travel between campus locations
Establish effective working relationships with college administration, faculty, staff, and students.
Adhere to school policy as set in the Policy and Procedures Manual.
Perform other duties as assigned District Director of Social Science Instruction.
