Program Outline

The Illusion Studio's Animatronics Figure Trainee Program will introduce the individual to the skills required to manufacture Audio-Animatronics Figures for Disney Parks. Each participant will develop new skills in several areas: Mechanical (machining, welding, and assembly), Electrical Assembly, and Surface Development (plastics, mold-making, 3D printing, and others).

The program specifically targets skills required in our diverse workforce such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication through a variety of hands on modules and on-the-job training. Trainees will be immersed in Disney culture while creating magical memories for our guests.

Responsibilities:

This is a full time (40 hours per week) role based in Glendale, CA. After general orientation, including one or more programs held at various Disney properties, participant's rotate through three Illusions Studio areas where they receive hands-on training and development while contributing to ongoing Project deliverables in:

  • Mechanical

  • Electrical

  • Surface Development

The time spent in each area is approximately four months. Participants receive exposure to a variety of projects and have ample time to practice the skills of the studio. During this phase the participants will also work together as an independent team to produce a small animated figure.

  • Have formal training in one or more of these areas:

  • Welding

  • Machining or tool making

  • Mold making

  • FRP layup

  • Electrical cabling or electronic assembly

Required Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required

Preferred Education

  • Associate degree, Trade School Education, manufacturing technology certification, or some related job training is preferred

Imagineering's Technology Studio is seeking an Associate Software Developer to contribute to the design, development, and operations of software and related technologies. The mission of the Technology Studio is to utilize modern technologies and processes to manage complexity, empower creative workflows, and increase efficiency in a rapidly growing and global organization, all while improving the overall experience for all Imagineers. The role will be contributing directly to the creation of applications and workflows for projected media in our projects. From the start where projections are designed through installation and into sustainment by our parks teams, this toolset encompasses all aspects of projection systems. Responsibilities: * Contribute to the design and development of software products in production environment. * Partner with senior developers and project teams to define technical requirements necessary to achieve product goals. * Execute project goals while employing best software development practices and adhering to relevant company and industry standards. * Work with other software developers and software project leads to provide incremental and overall updates to status and condition of software product progress. * Balance evolving technical requirements with fixed budgets and schedules, and communicate risks and options to product and project leadership in a timely fashion. * Engage with users, stakeholders, product managers and designers to achieve the product vision. Basic Qualifications: * A passion for using projected media for immersive storytelling. * Up to 3 years in software development role in commercial environment. * 1-3 years of experience with C++ (or equivalent low-level language) and Python (or equivalent high-level language). * Knowledge of modern software development practices, including version control, continuous development, and workflow management tools such as Jira, Gitlab, Jenkins, etc. * Demonstrable technical writing, documentation, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: * Familiarity with animation, visual effects, or game industry workflows, particularly around media. * Experience working on commercial game or media project. * Experience with Maya, Houdini, Nuke, or other third-party software tools.
