Description of Duties/Essential Functions Benefits Supplemental Questions

Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs sub-professional work in processing prescriptions and stock requisitions in the Home's pharmacy operation. Compounds simple preparations; assists in dispensing pharmaceutical preparations and supplies; performs clerical computer entry, stock keeping and routine housekeeping functions.

Assists with electronic and manual processing of patient's prescriptions and records; files interoffice and departmental memoranda, supply requisitions, filled stock orders and other records; maintains inventory functions via computer and auxiliary labels and records electronic generation. Receives medications, chemicals and biologicals into inventory, assists with the inspection and adherence to purchase specifications, storage specifications, and recommended guidelines concerning said medications and products. Assists with perpetual and physical inventories and assists with electronically and manually generated reports as required by the State of Illinois and the Department of Professional Regulation. Assists with routine inspections of drug preparation areas, nursing unit drug storage areas and nursing unit IV preparation areas.

Minimum Requirements:
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years high school. Requires Illinois registration as a registered certified pharmacy technician.

Requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of pharmacy. Requires working knowledge of aseptic handling of drugs. Requires working knowledge of keyboarding.

Requires working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics including proportion, dilution, concentration, unit conversion and percentages. Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, employees, and patients. Requires ability to prepare simple pharmaceutical preparations; requires ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports of pharmaceuticals purchased, dispensed, and stored.

Requires ability to learn data entry necessary to computerized pharmacy record keeping. Must be at least 18 years of age.
