Pharmacy Technician Specialist
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy/ Pharmacy Ops Supervisor, and the day to day direction of a Registered Pharmacist, performs functions related to pharmaceutical preparation and distribution. These activities may include but are not limited to: fills unit dose cassettes, enters and fills unit and physician orders, produces labels and prepares IV admixtures, charges and reconciles billing documents audits supplies in nursing units, prepares medications, enters medication orders in computer.
May stock and distribute pharmacy supplies. May be responsible for ordering, control, dispensing, preparing, delivering, filing documents, reconciliation, and destroying controlled substances within the facility.
In addition to the duties outlined above, the individual will be able to work all technician shifts at a high level of performance. The individual must possess extended automation and Pyxis troubleshooting capabilities, as well as, participate in at least one workflow optimization team.. The individual must be willing and able to fill-in for at least one of the following-Narc Tech, Buyer, IV Lead.
The individual must be willing to train in said areas where lacking in experience. The individual must maintain at least one active project during the employment year. These technicians will be the primary trainers for new technician employees.
Each technician specialist will be required to present at least one educational program for technicians each year. They will also be responsible for assisting in competency development and implementation. This position may make routine visits to off-site locations (Free standing EDs, etc) for medication distribution/management and inspection
Certified Pharmacy Technician at time of hire.
Satisfactory completion of a formal technician training course preferred. CE required for continued certification.
Two-four years experience as a pharmacy technician preferred.
As defined in position competencies.
Typing and use of computer keyboard; reading of some technical medical information, physician orders, patient MARs, checklists, and directions; math skills: basic math, algebra, measurements of amounts; preparation of simple reports, completion of forms and logs, writing telephone messages; communication via telephone, computer and face to face with staff, patients, and small groups; excellent interpersonal skills with patients and other health care professionals. Ability to work with automated systems. Granted Automated Dispensing System Pyxis/Meditech access and privileges.
III. Degree of Supervision Required:
All activities supervised by a pharmacist. Works independently, leads by example, concise instruction given when needed, duties outlined on hiring, completed patient specific pharmaceutical work checked by pharmacist as required by State and Federal Law.
Supports facility Standards and Values. Works constructively within fiscal boundaries. Supports department management team and department planning. Participates as a member of a performance improvement committee.
