Pay Range*: $25.95/hr - $37.64/hr

Position Summary

The Retail Pharmacy Technician lends technical and administrative support to the pharmacist and provides customer care and service in order to improve therapeutic outcomes through safe, rational and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. The Retail Pharmacy Technician may work in either of the retail pharmacy operations.

The Retail Pharmacy Technician is competent in data entry, filling and labeling under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. They may also be responsible for extemporaneous compounding of oral or topical pharmaceutical products. The Retail Pharmacy Technician must be able to utilize the pharmacy software systems and be able to participate in the Quality Assurance programs.

The Retail Pharmacy Technician interacts with patients with courtesy and respect and works to optimize workflow to avoid delays. The Retail Pharmacy Technician is knowledgeable in prescription pricing and the processing of insurance billing of prescription including insurance verification and authorization. They are familiar with routine supplies for diabetic patients.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

Fills and processes retail prescriptions accurately and is able to utilize all equipment types for their area of responsibility. Demonstrates understanding of the intake process and organize the work to optimize efficiency. Ensures all legal and regulatory requirements are met by adjusting work flow process to allow the pharmacist time to check each prescription.

Communicates with customers with courtesy and respect, utilizing information they obtain to triage service in a manner which optimizes workflow.

Works interactively with pharmacists, fellow technicians, and staff members to coordinate work processes in accordance with all department needs and standards.

Regularly performs drug inventory activities to ensure adequate stock is available for fill and compounding medications. All medication orders are restocked promptly and accurately, as well as all expired product is removed as per policy.

Demonstrates a working knowledge of prescription and supply pricing, third party billing plans, and authorizations as well as 340B eligibility screening to ensure all transactions are handled accordingly to department needs. Additionally, all money and credit card transactions are handled per established policy.

Capable of effectively using pharmacy management software e.g. QS1 and Microsoft Office e.g. Word and Excel

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

Minimum 1 year experience as a licensed pharmacy technician

Education/Licensure/Certification:

High school graduate or equivalent.

California licensed pharmacy technician required.

Certified Pharmacy Technician is a plus
