Here is some of what you can expect from being a Pharmacy Technician with us:

  • You will fill automated dispensing systems

  • You will package unit dose medications

  • You will prepares non-sterile compounding medications

  • You will enter and fill unit and physician orders

  • You will produce labels and prepare IV admixtures (including chemotherapy)

  • You will charge and reconcile billing documents

  • You will audit supplies in nursing units

  • You will prepare medications

  • You will enter medication orders in computer

  • You will provide basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems

  • You will stock and distribute pharmacy supplies when needed

  • You will be responsible for ordering, control, dispensing, preparation, delivering, filing documents, reconciliation, and destroying controlled substances within the facility when needed

Qualifications you will need for this role:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) with Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Pharmacy Technician certificate, or Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Provisional Pharmacy Technician Certificate. If initially hired with a Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Provisional Pharmacy Technician Certificate, must achieve Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) within 12 months of hire date

  • High school diploma

  • Previous Pharmacy Technician experience preferred

Read CU Anschutz Quick Facts here. Nature of Work The Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center (HTC) is a clinical care and research center that serves persons with rare bleeding disorders. The general operations are divided across the outpatient clinic, research laboratory, 340B pharmacy, patient support programs, and regional and national programs. The University of Colorado Hemophilia Center Pharmacy is an accredited 340B specialty pharmacy providing medications for treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders. The pharmacy purchases and dispenses high cost inventory valued at over $50 million annually. This Pharmacy Technician position will provide support to the pharmacy in the areas of inventory management and purchasing, customer service, order fulfillment and shipping, patient assessment refill documentation, records management, facilities maintenance, and monthly operations reporting. Professional Field Pharmacy Technician Supervision Received Pharmacy Manager - Paul Limberis. Supervision Exercised May assists with assigning tasks to pharmacy assistants for stocking supplies. Examples of Work Performed Inventory Management and Purchasing * Forecast and purchase all drugs and medical supplies, complying with PSC guidelines, utilizing multiple vendor sources, and complying with all 340B program inventory rules * Assist with continuous monitoring of perpetual 340B mixed use inventory model and report any discrepancies to the pharmacy manager * Monitor and rotate inventory to mitigate expired inventory losses * Monitor and maintain par levels on all inventory * Research and purchase all specialty request items * Enter all purchases into pharmacy database, ensure purchases tie out with payables system on monthly basis, resolve discrepancies with accounting * Count and document high cost commercial factor and study inventory on weekly basis, identify and resolve any discrepancies Customer Service * Interface with 250 -300 patients monthly regarding medication and supply requests. Examples include patient charts, daily prescription dispensing logs, purchase records, DSCSA documentation, patient signed documents, delivery receipts * Review Check Point temperature monitoring reports daily * Maintain pump tracking log information as required Facilities Management * Define and maintain organization and cleanliness standards of the pharmacy, including labeling standards that comply with industry standards to prevent medication errors * Procure and oversee housekeeping services and manage hazardous waste disposal according to university standards * Maintain all pharmacy equipment in working order, including refrigerators, computers, printers, kardex system; obtain and manage service and maintenance agreements on all appropriate equipment * Maintain refrigerator monitoring system to be in compliance with all standards and requirements of research participation and Board of Pharmacy; report and resolve discrepancies Reporting Functions * Prepare all monthly operations reports as defined by Pharmacy Manager utilizing Excel, Access, Crystal Reports Delivery and pharmacy software * Complete monthly 340B purchasing audit reports and submit to Pharmacy Manager * Monthly reports to the pharmacy Quality Management Committee as assigned * Other projects as assigned This description is a summary only and is describing the general level of work being performed, it is not intended to be all-inclusive.
