  • In accordance with state and federal regulations, assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. Assists the pharmacist in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.

  • Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience.

Customer Experience

  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.

  • Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.).

  • Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers.


  • Under the supervision by the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Reviews and complies with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.

  • Performs duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions. Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining work flow.

  • Reports, immediately, prescription errors to pharmacist on duty and adheres to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.

  • Strictly adheres to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.

  • Responsible and accountable for registering all related sales on assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required. Takes customer to OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products.

  • Handles telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.

  • Processes (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and performs other clerical duties, as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.

  • Assists and supports Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as, ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals. Maintains knowledge of Company asset protection techniques, and files claims for warehouse overages (merchandise received, but not billed), shortages (merchandise billed, but not received), order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.

  • May assist pharmacist in administering clinical services including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other clinical services as required; assists pharmacy staff in coordination of clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.

  • Assists Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, by medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for enhancing growth opportunities.

  • Assists with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat and orderly in condition and appearance.

  • Complies with all company policies and procedures; maintains respectful relationships with coworkers.

  • Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

  • Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state required certification/registration. Otherwise, earns PTCB certification as condition of promotion to senior technician.

  • Attends training and completes PPLs requested by Manager and acquires continuing education credits. Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
  • Requires willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.

  • Prefer to have prior work experience with Walgreens.

  • Prefer good math skills so they can fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring and weighing medications.

  • Prefer good computer skills.

  • Prefer the knowledge of store inventory control.

  • Prefer PTCB certification.

Stats are processed promptly. * Complete calculations independently and correctly. * Wear proper garbing in accordance with policy and procedures, applies proper aseptic technique and frequent hand washing during the preparation of sterile products. * Demonstrate the ability to use all equipment (filter needles, transfer sets, PCA cartridges, pumps, label printer, TPN compounder) properly. * Prepare LVP's, SVP, and TPNs with correct solution, drug, dose and attaches proper labels and expiration date and time. * Ensure that all products are checked and initialed by the pharmacist and that all documentation is complete before delivery. * Float between work areas to improve workflow, productivity and coverage for others. * Clean hoods and IV room as determined by department policy and procedure. * Clean TPN compounder and changes tubing as determined by department policy and procedure. * Accurately and appropriately documents procedures of daily, weekly, monthly maintenance and tasks. * Prepare or assist in the preparation of bulk/batch SVP products. * Prepare OR sterile products (Epidurals) accurately and within established time frames. * Prepare chemotherapeutic agents accurately, safely and within established time frames. Completes appropriate documentation. * Dispensing Cabinets: Monitors elements of automated dispensing cabinets according to department procedure and regulatory agencies. * Accurately restocks medication dispensing cabinets with the right drug, right location, rotating stock and maintaining correct expiration dates. * Accurately loads and unloads medications to/from dispensing cabinets, maintaining appropriate inventory. * Assure that controlled substances are placed into correct Pyxis location w/ correct count. * Assure that items in return bin are properly removed, restocked into Pyxis or returned to pharmacy and correctly documented. * Document all discrepancies on the Display Terminal. * Correctly recover failed drawers/cubies, reboots system as necessary. * Correctly assign supply locations. * TCT: Perform duties of the Tech Check Tech program according to departmental protocols. * Check medication and floor stock orders promptly and correctly. * Attain 99% or greater accuracy of dispensing and checking consistently in daily workflow and on yearly audits. * Floor Stock: Performs floor stock and restocking duties according to department procedures to ensure that appropriate quantity and quality of medications are stocked on nursing stations, ancillary departments and pharmacy satellites. * Fill floor stock forms accurately and completely within established time frames. Places order in correct location for pickup or delivery. * Check and fills code boxes before the end of shift. Assures that first drug to expire, number of lock and initial legibly noted on outside of sealed code box. * Check dating and replaces outdated drugs in code boxes at least once a month. * Restock drugs and supplies (ex: Rx bottles and vials, IV prep supplies, paper, etc.) for the satellite or central pharmacy regularly and within established time frames. * Note inventory levels each time a drug and/or IV is taken and writes items on want book to prevent outages. * Monitor change in usage and communicates to the pharmacy purchasing staff. Provides the pharmaceutical buyer with the necessary information to maintain effective inventories and storage. * Accurately and appropriately documents monthly UnitStock checks. * Complete assigned floor stock checks to remove outdated drugs from floor stock prior to expiration at least once a month. * Controlled Substances: Controlled substances are dispensed, returned and audited according to department policy and applicable State and Federal laws. * Fill controlled substance orders with correct drug and number of doses and processes through CII Safe system in narcotic vault, or perpetual inventory for IV room and OP satellite. * Process and document controlled substance returns according to department policy. * Processe, witness and document controlled substance wastes according to department policy. * Dispose of out dated controlled substances in accordance with all State and Federal rules and regulations. * Perform daily audits and accurately maintains the controlled substances inventory. * Reconcile errors in count or reports irreconcilable errors to pharmacy administration. * Distribute and control keys. * Maintain a neat and clean work area to promote patient safety and infection control: * Keep work area neat and organized, free of extraneous items and waste. * Clean spills immediately; cleans counters weekly with approved cleaning agent. * Orient new employees to the layout of the hospital, policies and procedures, and acts as the primary resource person for questions, as assigned. * Orient and Assist in training of staff and others to the pharmacy systems and procedures. * Assist in performing quality assurance functions by collecting data on the use of drugs (including floor stock and emergency supply) and Assist with the development of solutions to alter undesirable conditions. * Assist in completion of required audits or studies as assigned. * Advise and makes recommendations to the pharmacist supervisor and the Assistant Director, Pharmacy Operations on standardization of procedures, etc. * Perform other related duties as required: * Participate in the educational and research programs at SHMC. * Complete data entry accurately and within established time frames. * Perform duties within established guidelines and time frames. Required qualifications for this position include: * H.S. Diploma or GED * Washington state Pharmacy Technician certification. * Sufficient work experience to enable the employee to work effectively in commonplace work situations and to provide working knowledge of the principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques of the pharmaceutical field; usually interpreted as one year of applicable experience.
