Prepares all medications associated with IV treatments to be administered in outpatient oncology setting. This includes but not limited to chemotherapy, biologics , growth factors and support medications prescribed to prevent or treat therapy associated SE'S.
In addition , the pharmacy technician manages drug inventory and runs/reviews daily reports of drug utilization, maintains pharmacy environment to OSHA and JACHO standards, demonstrates safe handling and disposal of chemotherapy. The pharmacy tech can serve as resource to clinical and billing staff re: drug dispensing and preparation.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Safely and accurately mixes/prepares all prescribed medications according to order. Prepares labels, bags and tags.
2.Consistently demonstrates safe handling and disposal of chemotherapy agents as outlined by OSHA and ONS.
3, Is proficient with Lynx, Pyxis, Intellidose, Meditech, QS1, Cardinal.com Systems.
4.Prepares reports including inventory and expired drug, and is alert to any disparity; reports promptly Pharmacy Coordinator.
5.Maintains pharmacy environment as required by OSHA. Manages refrigerator temperature, air balancing, hood certification; records same.
6.Maintains drug and related supply Inventory. Inventories supplies and drugs; prepares orders; checks in and stocks.
7.Maintains clinical trial binder with trial information and prep instructions.
8.Cleans hood daily.
9.Prepares medications for weekend "shot" clinic
Effectively communicates with staff as requested.
Prepares oral chemotherapy prescriptions including QS1 input
High School Graduate, Associates Degree preferred, registered as a pharmacy technician (licensed) in Ct. with a minimum of three years experience in a practice, hospital or infusion therapy setting with actual admixture experience. A high degree of computer literacy in a PC environment where complicated technology is required. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Technician board certification required and oncology technician board certification preferred
