Under the direction of the Pharmacist, this position is responsible for providing timely preparation and distribution of medications and IV solutions to include chemotherapeutic and bio therapeutic agents within the oncology / infusion center in conjunction with established guidelines, policies and procedures, and statutory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures in all areas of practice

  • Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, performs functions pertaining to the dispensing of chemotherapy, bio therapy, hazardous and other medications

  • This technician shall be proficient in sterile products preparation, proficient and able to perform practices dictated by the USP 797/800 guidelines

  • Provides coverage in areas of need in the pharmacy operation

  • Consistently demonstrates safe handling and disposal of chemotherapy agents, as outlined by OSHA, USP <797> and USP <800> standards

  • Appropriately pulls pre-medications from dispensing cabinet, and chemotherapy/biotherapy as orders are presented

  • Safely and accurately mixes and prepares all prescribed medications, including chemotherapy/biotherapy for pharmacist check, in a timely and efficient manner to ensure minimal delay in patient treatments

  • Prepares labels, bags, and dispenses the products

  • Dates and properly stores partial multi-dose vials, Draws up and dates injectables

  • Reviews stock, orders medications daily from vendor, and follows up on back-ordered stock. Receives/checks-in all orders

  • Under the direction of Pharmacy Management and the pharmacist this position will maintain adequate supply and utilize cost-containment practices

  • Appropriately operates and maintains specialized pharmacy equipment. Charts all scheduled maintenance designed to ensure sterility according to protocol. Performs daily, weekly, monthly and terminal cleaning of IV admixture spaces

  • Must maintain general pharmacy knowledge, knowledge of medications, medication dosage forms, and trade and generic names

  • Thorough knowledge in preparation of sterile parenteral products using proper aseptic technique, knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations, proper product labeling, and product reconstitution procedures. Thorough understanding of medication order procedures involving the pharmacy computer system

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-2 Years Prior Infusion/Oncology experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • PTCB Certification or CPhT required

  • Must be licensed with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and have a certification

  • Current BLS certification

  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role

  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease.

PRIMARY PURPOSE Provides direct support to pharmacists and pharmacy staff in preparing orders, packaging and labeling, tracking inventory, maintaining records, cashiering/payment collections and performing clerical duties. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS Education - Must have a High School diploma or GED. - Preferred some college courses. - Preferred completion of ACPE or ASHP accredited pharmacy technician training program. Experience - Six months experience in prior pharmacy technician health system roles such as inpatient pharmacy, IV/Infusion pharmacy, retail pharmacy, mail order pharmacy, and/or pharmacy repackaging. Skills or Special Abilities: - Must complete a pre-employment polygraph test. - Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of a PC, and be able to learn and use new software. - Must be able to pass Pharmacy math and spelling test with a minimum score of 80%. - Must successfully complete the necessary training requirements to perform cashier duties within 90 days from initial employment. - Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills for area of responsibility. - Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the operation of equipment used in primary practice area. - Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of different types of drugs. - Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of medical and health care terminology. - Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued care. Responsibilities 1. Follows established procedures to prepare and distribute medication orders, prescriptions and/or sterile products under pharmacist¿s general supervision. Accurately maintains and replenishes automation systems (if applicable). 2. Operates an electronic cash register while entering correct charges, collecting accurate amounts of money and giving correct change to customers to ensure that payment is received for purchases. 3. Prepares for each shift by obtaining and inserting the correct amount of cash in the appropriate cash register and ensure that the workstation is ready to service customers when the shift begins. 4. Delivers remaining cash receipts and completed/approved reports to the manager, after each shift, while following established policies and procedures to ensure that all monies are secured and accounted for when the shift ends. 5. May be asked to perform prescription order entry into the ambulatory pharmacy system. 6. Assists in the maintenance of various inventory records, invoices and prescription hardcopies. 7. Assists in the maintenance of assigned areas, including cleanliness, drug and supply inventory, equipment, and simple repair to ensure that pharmacy areas are clean, operational, contain the necessary supplies, and are free from obstacles. 8. Acts as a resource person for non-judgmental pharmacy questions to medical staff, patients, and visitors. 9.
