ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a full range of pharmacy technician procedures.

  • Perform pharmaceutical dispensing duties including filling new outpatient prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases.

  • Perform information consultation duties including supporting new and refill prescriptions, supporting patient requests, supporting physician's requests, monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions.

  • Perform quality improvement duties including performing drug storage inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation.

  • Perform supply process duties including placing new orders, stocking/restocking shelves, inventory maintenance, producing not in stock reports.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS:

HCW Qualifications:

  • Degree: Certificate.

  • Education: Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program)or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.

  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross Healthcare Provider Course; Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

  • Experience: Have a minimum of 12 consecutive months experience within the preceding 24 months working as a pharmacy technician.

  • References: Provide two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to the HCW's clinical skills.

    One letter must be from a practicing pharmacist or pharmacy supervisor who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW's clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW's patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the HCW's communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Location: Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and its associated Branch Health/Medical Clinics (BHC) and Tricare Prime Clinics (TPC)

Service: Pharmacy Technician

Place of Performance: The work to be performed under this contract is in support of NMCP and associated Branch Medical Clinics and Tricare Prime Clinics. HCWs shall receive notification 48 hours prior to reassignment with a forty (40) mile commuting radius of their assignment MTF.

Recognized Holidays: Contract HCWs may be required to work on federally

recognized holidays.

Hours of Performance: The performance hours of the MTF are as follows:

Pharmacy Technician (BHC Boone)

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Sunday, between the hours 0700 and 1900 hours. The clinic is open on the following Federal Holidays:

    Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday, President's Day, Columbus Day, and Veteran's Day. Each HCW will be scheduled for a shift length that can range from four (4) hours to twelve (12) hours in length.

    Any shift greater than six (6) hours will include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute meal break. In no instance will a HCW exceed 80 hours per two-week period.

The current schedule is between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but is subject to return to its listed initial schedule.

Pharmacy Technician (BHC Oceana)

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours 0700 and 1900 hours. Each HCW will be scheduled for a shift length that can range from four (4) hours to twelve (12) hours in length.

    Any shift greater than six (6) hours will include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute meal break. In no instance will a HCW exceed 80 hours per two-week period.

The current schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pharmacy Technicians (TPC Virginia Beach)

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Sunday between 0700 and 1900. Holiday weeks the amount of coverage would decrease.

    The clinic is open from 0900 to 1700 on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The clinic is open from 0700 to 1900 on all other holidays.

The current schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but is subject to return to its listed initial Monday

  • Sunday schedule.

Pharmacy Technicians (TPC Chesapeake)

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Sunday between 0700 and 1900. Holiday weeks the amount of coverage would decrease.

    The clinic is open from 0900 to 1700 on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The clinic is open from 0700 to 1900 on all other holidays.

The current schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but is subject to return to its listed initial Monday

  • Sunday schedule.

Pharmacy Technicians (TCP Suffolk)

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Sunday between 0700 and 1900 for three hundred sixty hours (360) hours per week. Holiday weeks the amount of coverage would decrease.

    The clinic is open from 0900 to 1700 on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The clinic is open from 0700 to 1900 on all other holidays.

The current schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but is subject to return to its listed initial Monday

  • Sunday schedule.

Scheduling: The schedule or scheduling process is as follows:

Individual Requirements:

Specific days, hours, and shift length will be scheduled by the designated government representative. The specific schedule for each two-week period will be provided fifteen (15) days in advance by the government supervisor or designee.

Any planned absences of the HCW shall be communicated to the government supervisor in advance. At the mutual agreement of the contractor and the Government, alternative schedules may be implemented such as a compressed work schedule. Any changes in the schedule shall be coordinated between the HCW and the government. The Government reserves the right to change shift hours with 72 hours' notice to accommodate patient care needs and mission requirements.

Coverage Requirements: Schedules for required shifts shall be provided to the Contractor twelve (12) weeks in advance.

Schedules for all personnel shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) eight (8) weeks in advance.

Schedules are due on the first weekday (Monday through Friday) of the eight (8) weeks prior to services being needed, with the exception of the initial task order. Any changes to the personnel roster shall be submitted to the COR seventy-two (72) hours in advance of the required change.

The Government recognizes the unforeseen need for scheduling changes for events such as illness or injury. The required seventy-two (72) hour advance notification for roster changes may be waived by the Government for such occasions on a case-by-case basis.

Closures: During a planned closure of the facility due to training, holiday or unplanned closure due to unusual and compelling circumstances (e.g., natural disasters, military emergencies, severe weather), the Contractor will be compensated for the unplanned closure.
