Description:

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System's Hospital Pharmacy Services is seeking a full time, motivated professional for the position of Pharmacy Technician II. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II will perform technical job functions and responsibilities which optimize safe and efficient medication preparation and delivery. UI Hospital Pharmacy is a fast paced and dynamic environment which relies on the teamwork of its staff to provide the highest levels of patient care and service. This position is a primarily day position with rotation to evening and midnight shift in a 24/7 hospital environment. The pay for this position starts at $19.17 per hour and includes paid time off, excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as many other benefits.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of medication orders for unit dose and intravenous admixtures in the cleanroom

  • Preparation of intravenous admixtures and other sterile products using aseptic techniques

  • Compound and reconstitute drug products

  • Demonstrate safe and effective handling of hazardous medication in preparation techniques and disposal

  • Distribution of medications

  • Replenishing and maintaining the automated dispensing cabinet systems (Omnicell)

  • Transportation of medications to satellite pharmacies, nursing units, and patient care areas

  • Assisting in the organization, and monitoring of pharmaceuticals and supplies

  • Assisting with inventory control, processing orders

  • Maintaining a clean work environment

  • Fully participating in quality improvement initiatives

  • Successful candidates will possess a "can do" positive attitude and willingness to be trained in hospital pharmacy tasks

  • The selected candidate will also have excellent problem solving skills, understand the importance of reliability and punctuality within a team environment, multi-task well in a fast paced setting while paying attention to details, appreciate working in a culturally diverse environment, and possess above average computer and technology literacy skills

Minimum Qualifications Required:

1.Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Illinois.

2.Any one of the following that equals six (6)months:

A. Successful completion of a formal training program in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.

OR

B. Work experience in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.

3.One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a pharmacy technician.

4.Demonstrated USP797/800 sterile compounding skill utilizing aseptic techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PTCB Pharmacy Certification or graduation from a Pharmacy Certification Program

  • Previous hospital cleanroom/sterile compounding experience
