Description:

Greets members at front desk, enters information about prescriptions into computer system, receives payment from members, and prepares medications for approval by pharmacist.

Essential Responsibilities:

Greets members at counter or over the telephone, verifies member's eligibility status, and receives prescriptions from members for pharmaceuticals.

Enters prescription information into computer system and prints labels for use by pharmacist.

Receives payment according to terms of members' plan.

Selects requested drugs from Baker cell dispenser or counts drugs from pharmacy shelf.

Attaches labels to container for review by pharmacist.

Reconstitutes medications by mixing with fluids.

Calls members to pick-up completed prescription.

Receives payment for over-the-counter medications and medical supplies selected by members.

Answers routine inquiries from members regarding health plan drug coverage, prices, and related issues.

Identifies situations when patient should speak with pharmacist regarding use of drugs and asks pharmacist to speak to member.

Performs other related duties as directed.
2 week rotating schedule

Wk 1 friday 12p-6p, sat 5p-11p,

Wk 2 Sunday 5p-11p, monday 12p-6p, Tuesday 930a-6p, thurs 930a-6p

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

N/A

Education

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

Registered as a pharmacy technician or Intern with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy required.

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacy nomenclature and calculations.

Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum one (1) year of experience in pharmacy preferred.

Communicates with providers to influence optimal drug information to patients and health care providers. Participates in patient and provider educational programs to positively impact patient compliance and provider prescribing practices. Oversees and directs pharmacy technician staff in the execution of technical functions. Assists in cash and inventory control in accordance with departmental procedures and comply with all record keeping and legal requirement of the practice of pharmacy. Essential Functions: * Analyses patient care and services needs in a manner that facilitates the achievement of both a high level of customer satisfaction and the attainment of organizational care and service initiatives. * Reviews prescribe medications and dosages to ensure that therapy is safe and effective for the patient's condition. Utilizes patient profiles to identify clinically significant drug allergies and drug interactions. Processes and labels prescriptions with proper identification data and directions for patient use. Compounds and dispenses medications accurately. * Provides advice and consultation to patients regarding side effects drug interactions, specific storage requirement and complete directions for use. Monitors designated patients' compliance and response to drug therapy to improve individual patient outcomes. * Routinely communicates with providers to influence the use of formulary medications in compliance with clinical protocols, target drug initiatives and pre-authorized therapeutic substitutions. Documents all clinical interventions using approved forms. * Demonstrates proficiency in operating automated systems for prescription order entry, patient profile review or retrieval of clinical or statistical data. Maintains proper records relating to medication profiles, prescription files, controlled substances records, non-formulary records and other legal and departmental record and procedures. Demonstrates proficiency with the Point of Service (POS) cash register system and cash management procedures. * Serves as a liaison to assigned clinical care team as demonstrated by problem solving skills on medication related issues, input on education matters relating to medications and fostering interdepartmental coordination on pharmaceutical care initiatives. * Maintains professional competency through attendance and participation in clinical team meetings and ACPE accredited continuing education programs. Assists in the training and education of pharmacy students and technicians. * Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives and contributes to team or departmental projects directed toward the achievement of improved service efficiency and patient outcomes. Basic Qualifications: Experience * N/A Education * BS degree in pharmacy or pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy required. License, Certification, Registration * Licensed to practice pharmacy in assigned jurisdiction required. Additional Requirements: * Ability to interpret and understand prescriptions and execute all pharmacists functions. * Excellent oral and written communications skills. Preferred Qualifications: * At least one (1) year of experience as a pharmacist in an outpatient clinic, hospital or retail pharmacy desirable. * Home IV experience preferred - IV experience highly preferred. * Completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy residency program desirable.
