Position Summary

Assists pharmacists with daily pharmacy operations in a supportive role.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with accurate preparation, labeling and dispensing of patient take-home and oral medications. Includes timely delivery of medications to nursing staff and patients.

  • Assists with order entry of take-home medications, electronic claims processing of prescriptions and able to operate cash register to collect payments from patients.

  • Assists with drug purchasing and inventory management. Includes monitoring inventory for expired medications and assisting with return of expired drug products. Replenishes stock when drug inventory is low. Obtains office supplies when needed for pharmacy operations.

  • Assists with Quality Assurance monitoring programs including but not limited to temperature monitoring of pharmacy refrigerators and freezers, checking for expired medications, checking stock for recalled medications.

  • Participates in pharmacy continuing educational programs, seminars and all required training and certifications to maintain job status and/ or pharmacy licensure as required by law.

  • Ensures update of educational reference material, answers telephone, assists customers at pharmacy counter/ door and assists pharmacists with any requested pharmacy duties. Assists with keeping pharmacy neat, clean and orderly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maintains current certification from PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board); some retail Pharmacy experience.

  • Pharmacy experience demonstrated ability to ensure accurate drug dispensing.

  • Safe handling and preparation of cytotoxic and biohazard drugs.

  • Basic computer skills including typing.

  • Basic pharmacy skills.

  • Ability to understand and follow complex written or verbal instructions.

  • Requires effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to organize time and work independently.

  • Ability to handle confidential material.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

  • Three or more years of experience in pharmacy operations, including IV admixtures and cytotoxic drug handling and general pharmacy experience.

  • Current Pharmacy Technician licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location. Pharmacy Technician licensure must be obtained within three months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager.

  • Basic Life Support certification. (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.).

Salary Range

$18.84 - $28.29 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
