Assists the pharmacist in the performance of the pharmacy daily routine. This shall be carried out in accordance with all state/federal laws, JCAHO Standards, and hospital/departmental policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities but not limited to:
Completes daily work assignments with minimal supervision or direction.
Delivers medications to the proper locations within the hospital as required.
Fills drug orders for all other departments ordering drugs from the pharmacy, accurately.
Greets people entering the department: smiles and makes direct eye contact; gives full attention to the
person; maintains an even voice level.
If designated, inspects nursing stations and other medication storage areas monthly and documents as
described by the pharmacy department policy and procedure.
Maintains records as required by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Board of Pharmacy
and Federal Pharmacy Regulations.
Organizes time, supplies and equipment.
Participates as a member of a Performance Improvement Team as assigned.
Performs all duties under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
Performs newly-assigned duties upon completion of training.
Pre-packages medications, unit dose form, according to pharmacy policies.
Prepares IV admixtures aseptically and accurately.
Receives, checks, and prices all deliveries, of incoming drugs and checks invoices against receipts and
reports any discrepancies to the supervisor.
Requests assistance in the decision-making process and problem-solving as necessary.
Retrieves data for Q.I. monitors and makes recommendations to improve care, resolve identified problems,
and improve existing pharmacy programs.
Uses age-appropriate pharmacy guidelines for IV admixture services.
Uses appropriate pharmacy guidelines for the admixture of IV solutions, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
State of Florida Registered Technician
Completion of a board approved Pharmacy technician training program is required. High school graduate, with clerical and science courses and a thorough technical background, is required. An accredited vocational education as a certified pharmacy technician is preferred.
One year minimum of hospital pharmacy experience in unit dose and IV admixture. Chemo experience preferred. Basic knowledge of ordering preferred.
Board Certification or a diploma from an accredited program.
