New technicians are required to complete our extensive training program for Pharmacy Technicians and satisfy all registration, licensing and certification requirements according to your state's Board of Pharmacy guidelines.

  • As allowable in applicable states, certified and trained Pharmacy Technicians can expand on their clinical and managerial responsibilities, including administering vaccinations.

Physical Demands

  • Standing / walking for an extended period of time.

  • Near vision; ability to see details at close range to perform activities such as: transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading, visual inspection involving small parts

  • Wrist / finger speed; ability to make fast, simple, repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

  • Ability to push and pull objects, including drawers and other items of similar weight, as well as reaching overhead.

  • Ability to handle and work with small instruments and objects.

  • Bending/squatting/leaning to a considerable degree and requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

  • Is able to load and unload trays/cases/totes (30 pound maximum to a height of 4 feet).

  • Auditory attention; ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds.

  • Effective verbal communication; expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, especially when detailed or important instructions must be conveyed accurately.

  • Ability to move quickly from one task to another according to the needs of the pharmacy.

  • The ability to concentrate on a task for significant periods of time.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age

  • Licensure requirements vary by state. Learn more by visiting your state's Board of Pharmacy website or asking the hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.

  • National Certification from an accredited pharmacy technician certification program approved by specific state regulations (e.g. PTCB, ExCPT, etc.).


  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).

Position Summary The Pharmacy Technician works as a member of the MedImpact Direct team processing prescription requests in accordance with standards for accuracy, timeliness, productivity, and client performance commitments. This individual will use various business applications to perform analysis, obtain information, and enter data necessary for prescription processing and claims adjudication. In addition, they will utilize reasoning skills to identify missing information and make processing determinations based upon protocols and client guidelines. The Pharmacy Technician interacts with internal and external customers to provide and obtain information and ensures the delivery of outstanding service and quality. The successful candidate will work under general supervision, relying on instructions, work process guidelines, policies and procedures, and company knowledge/experience to perform the functions of the job. The extent of supervision ranges from close to moderate oversight based upon demonstrated skill and performance levels as defined for the position. Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Level I: * Receives e-scribed, written, faxed prescriptions or refill authorizations and verifies the information is complete for processing.Scans all newly received written or faxed prescription into the MedImpact Direct system in a timely manner. Makes outbound calls to prescribers to clarify missing or unclear information on prescription. Verifies patient eligibility through the appropriate insurance provider * Processes prescriptions for pricing and routing to appropriate pharmacy for fulfillment * Gathers information and enters patient demographic information from all relevant sources * Establishes and maintains patient profiles, including lists of medications taken, allergies and medical conditions * Periodically answers phones and responds to patient questions and request that do not require a pharmacist * Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating information required to answer questions and referring them to the pharmacist for clinical information * Make outbound phone calls to prospective or existing patients regarding prescription information * Analyzes, researches, and attempts to resolve initial investigation of non-clinical member issues and non-escalated complaints which do not require the intervention and/or consultation from a Registered Pharmacist * Protects patients' privacy rights by adhering to HIPAA guidelines * Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations established by MedImpact Direct, state and federal pharmacy regulatory agencies Level II: * Including all Level I tasks and assisting with special projects and assignments as delegated * Analyzes, researches, and resolves initial investigation of escalated customer shipping issues and complaints * Communicate and work with fulfillment partner Pharmacies for coordination of order dispensing for non-clinical issues and exceptions * Analyzes, researches, and resolves initial investigation of escalated non-clinical member issues and complaints which do not require the intervention and/or consultation from a Registered Pharmacist * Analyzes, researches, and resolves initial MedImpact PBM eligibility and adjudication issues * Provide assistance in cross department issues as needed Education & Experience For consideration, candidates will need an Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two (2) year College or technical school; or at least one (1) year job related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Level I: One (1) to two (2) years of Healthcare organization or retail/mail order pharmacy experience preferred Level II: Two (2) to four (4) years of Healthcare organization or retail/mail order pharmacy experience preferred Computer Skills To perform this job successfully an individual should have intermediate knowledge of MS Office/Word, Excel, and Outlook and an aptitude for new programs. Experience with Windows based database programs is also required. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations National certification and State of Arizona (for Tempe location) or State of Michigan (for Novi location) Pharmacy Technician licensure is required. Candidates must maintain a current Pharmacy Technician License and/or CPhT certification without restriction.
